http://abcnews.go.com/US/george-zimmerman-emerged-hiding-truck-crash-rescue/story?id=19735432 ------------ The guy sounds like a stand up citizen if you ask me.
But you have to go back to the original choice NOT to press charges until the politics surrounding the event were heated up. Still then it proved to be unworthy of the hoopla created about this tragedy. I wonder how some of you will feel about this two years hence when the passion has worn off. There still is a "Zimmerman is guilty of Murder... there just wasn't enough evidence" mentality attached to his acquittal. It's ironic because I understand feeling this way about OJ Simpson but not George Zimmerman.... and Zimmerman admits to killing Trayvon.
It does seem the guy wants to help people -- e.g., volunteering to help with neighborhood watch and this helping of the guy in the overturned truck.
It's sad on both sides. The one I was specifically referring to in the post above is obviously a Zimmerman supporter. Most of those who have shown him support are quick to throw out assumptions (ex. the lean mixture) when they don't know either way. The other size, the Martin supporters, are quick to call out racism which is sad because racism still exists around the globe and will probably never be extinct. Yet when you take a non-racial situation, which this one appears to be and apply the term racist, racism, etc. to part of it then it lessens the effect that real racism has everywhere else, which is a shame because, and I think we can all agree, that those events need to be more of a focus. And you're right, the extremist views are louder and therefore receive more attention for whatever reason. Sad all around. I'll say this, the case is the epitome of why this nation is going down the drain. Why? There is simply zero compromise, everybody else has to be the one that is right without accepting anybody else's ideas or opinions.
Clearly GZ didn't learn his lesson. He should have stayed in his truck and waited for the cops to arrive.
You are jumping to multiple conclusions. First, the Jury doesn't have to believe GZ story to give their verdict. They just need reasonable doubt and it's easy to see why they have reasonable doubt. There simply wasn't enough evidence in this case to paint a clear picture of what happen - NO ONE know what happen in those last few mins. That's reasonable enough doubt to not convict. Whether or not member of the jurors believe GZ's account is not known but it is not necessary. If I'm a juror, I don't need to believe GZ account but I need to have no reasonable doubt that the prosecutor story is correct. Heck, given what is known now, I agree that this probably shouldn't even go to trial, at least not without more evidences. Second, the stories that ZM told, as I recalled them, was basically he lost sight of TM and then TM basically appeared out of no where, they had some verbal exchange and then TM attacked him. Even if you totally believe in this series of events, GZ did not said TM "doubled-back" to find him. He didn't know since he lost sight of him. We don't know what happen. GZ didn't know how TM just appeared out of no where. Your conclusion and your story that paint a picture of TM doubling back, was not acting out of fear, to find GZ so to attack him doesn't even match up to ZM story. Third, the initial investigators did not stated they believe TM story. What they said was there is no grounds to disprove his story of the events. They don't know what happen in those last few mins and all they have is mainly the story that TM told. Investigators aren't stupid (just believe one side of the story), but they can only work with the data set they have. Not having the evidence to know what happen or to disprove his story is different from believing his story. At the end of the day, no one know what happen other than TM and GZ. The 911 tape on the cry for HELP HELP was never conclusive by experts on who was calling for help and wasn't even allowed to be admitted as evidence because of that. Investigator stated they have no idea who started the fight. Eye witnesses and "hear" witnesses didn't point to a consistent story line. Again, no one other than those two know what happen. This is a case where you are left with unanswered questions and you will probably never have the real answers. You are only left with beliefs and I would dial those beliefs down.
If Florida doesn't have Good Samaritan laws on the books it might have been in his best interest to do so.
BREAKING Obama just came out with a statement about Zimmerman's good Samaritan deed: "If I had an SUV, it would be flipped like that family's!"
Following the evidence and marrying it to the outcome. You do realize that it is possible to have almost no doubt about what happened. Framing it in this "reasonable doubt" language makes it ever to seem a close call-- which is not necessarily the case. What is known now is what was known then... and it still went to trial. IIRC, the story was that Trayvon came out of some bushes-- bushes which I take were in the foreground of where Zimmerman saw Martin "head off." If you look at most of the crime scene re-enactment maps, they show 2 or 3 loops in Trayvon's supposed path-- right before the encounter. I guess those represent to the best of the analyst's ability a reconstruction of Trayvon's path. Look at the FBI interview with Serino. The most negative aspect of Serino's report is he had the impression that Zimmerman's answers were ~canned. It also could be that they were that simply straightforward and true. Since he and the department found no other compelling evidence to file charges initially, that would seem to be good enough. It's funny how in the court of law we are innocent until proven guilty but in the court of public opinion it's no big deal to be held guilty until proven innocent and even then it is presumed to be by the slimmest of margins, i.e. "you got away with it." Be nice to have HD video. My "beliefs" are in line with the trial's outcome and most of these naysayers want to assume that the reasonable doubt was slim rather than huge.
I agre with the verdit, Romany is right about this. Hundreds of black africans die everyday, the sole reason this case was so publicized is because the media could profit off of it. http://www.eurweb.com/2013/07/romany-malco-pens-message-to-trayvon-sympathizers/
Yep. Yep. Yep. +Rep. Whatever happened to discussing differing viewpoints with some respect? People can't seem to accept they could possibly be wrong and go out of their way to demonize those that disagree with them. I also think people have lost the ability to "agree to disagree" and leave it at that. As you said both sides feel they have to be right so the debate devolves into character assassinations.
I'm sure the cousin he molested, Trayvon Martin's family, the police offer he assaulted and his Ex who got a restraining order on him disagree!!!! Oh...and the Judge he blatantly lied to about his finances. He volunteered for Neighborhood Watch b/c he knew it was as close as he could ever get to becoming a Cop.
Romany is the black bigtexxx. *ducks* Spoiler But seriously Romany sounds like one smart mother ****er.
pretty much what I said yesterday but he said it better. Change yourself before changing someone else. take responsibility and don't point the finger. (speaking in general of course)
