I understand it's music, but there's a large portion of black kids with only a single parent live in poverty. all they have to look up to is what's on tv or radio, that's all who they have to look up to. these single parents don't have the time to teach their kids what's right or not. then they try to portray and live the life of what they see as glamorous and the life they want. it's a big cycle that just keeps repeating. I know I have had friends who just go the wrong path since I was raised in the hood.

ps not saying all black people

Rap music is entertainment, nothing more and nothing less. It is people speaking from their own experiences as well as exaggerating largely. Goodfellas, TheGodfather, The Sopranos, some forms of rock music, violent video games and many others are on the flip side. Are those films responsible for white crimes? Does that music make whites do drugs or drink? Do those games make them shoot up schools or public places?

    Someone completely missed the point.

The point is the KKK uses the SAME statistics for their propaganda.

So if I wanted to truly race bait I could bring out more statistics and say "See! This proves white people are more prone to crime than blacks!" but what is the point other than to race bait?

how were you raised? were you raised in the poverty? i was. I was robbed twice in one night when I was 9 years old while living in the hood. Rap music in the poverty is more than just entertainment. It's a lifestyle, it's a culture, it's how many try to live. You ask a lot of black men in the hood, and they will say they didn't expect to live past 18 y/o.

The class you live in highly affect on how these forms of entertainment can effect you.

If Zimmerman would have simply called the police and then found a safe haven, none of this would have happened. I have been saying that all along.

I was raised in poverty, yes. I've been robbed and shot at before and have had friends and relatives hurt and die due to street violence. I was surrounded by what would be the epitome of the subject matter in rap music.

The thing is these people are not attempting to emulate rap music, this is the way of life for many in these areas. As I said, rappers, just like any other form of music, make their music based on their own experiences just like blues, country, etc. You didn't see people trying to live the rap lifestyle, you saw people living their lifestyle and rap music expressing those situations.

WTF I think the one missing the point is you .. Those statistics I quoted were from a DOJ study done by Eric Holder ..doesn't have a damn thing to do with the kkk or race baiting . It's a damn shame that some people can't open their minds even when the facts are undeniable .

Lol those are the same stats they use guy. It actually does have a damn thing to do with race baiting when you use those stats to suggest that black people are more violent. Yes it does.

So what do those 'facts' say to you?

ok, it all intertwine with each other. People are living that lifestyle and wanting things that doesn't belong to them. When you see rappers spitting bars about their money, cars, chains, jewlery women, etc. What do you think people will do when they can't get it while living in poverty? Sell drugs, rob people, break in's, etc. Rap music is based on experience but it glamorize the life and ignores the negative side of such life.

Anyways all I'm saying is stop blaming the media and other form of exposure, and take responsibility for yourself first. Change the way you think and how your mindset is. Speaking in general so don't take offense.

Not to mention sites like worldstarhiphop and people actually strive to be on there and trying to represent while they are doing ****ty thing on camera

I'm curious what rap music has to do with Mexico and say it's gang problem?

Personally...I don't think any form of entertainment is responsible for violence or crime, or if it does it is really insignificant. We are talking about rappers that sell millions of copies to white people as well. So I don't think so. Rap culture is alive and well worldwide also.

Yeah there is section of rappers who glorify that stuff but as a whole that's not what hip hop culture is about.

But you are right, gangbangers and criminals should take responsibility for their actions and not blame music, television, games etc

i'm not even talking about mainstream rappers like drake or lil wayne. I'm talking about the ones with the mix tapes selling them in their trunks and that is still living in the hood. And I already mention about the other form of entertainment. It's more prominent when you don't have a parent showing you right or wrong. All you have is your friends who's also involve in the same **** as you and there's a reason why gangs target young kids because they're impressionable (not to mention minors and charges = juvy and not hard time)

Mexico is on a whole another level and that has to do with their government and the cartel.

But we shouldn't ignore those statistics. Those statistics are the root of the problem. Profiling (also a problem) is a result of the underlying problem. That is why we need to address violence, poverty, single parent homes, education, etc in those communities first. I don't think black people are inherently violent just like no one is inherently racist. All of these things come from our experiences and environment. If people see more black crime in the news or in their neighborhood they will make those conclusions based on what they see. Not saying that is right but its human nature.

The problem in this case is you have no idea what was going on in George Zimmerman's head and there is no evidence to suggest he was racist. Race is part of the profile because it is very much an identifiable physical characteristic. Would he have profiled a white, Asian, or Mexican guy with a baggie hoodie wandering around the neighborhood? Maybe. But why did he go out of his way to help black people in other aspects of his life? I just cant make conclusions about other people's mindset. If someone of another ethnicity is a dick to me I don't automatically chalk it up to race...I look beyond that. Maybe they are having a bad day, or maybe it is their natural personality. In the bigger picture you will only hold yourself down in life if you just make everything about race.

People are living that lifestyle but its not because of rap music. What will people do when they see it depends. Some will do as you say, some will work to achieve it, others will try to break into rap or entertainment to get it, others will realize its materialistic and not care and so on. There's not a single path that everybody or even most people will take that can be proven.

Doesn't the media take some blame if what you say is true? If people are trying to emulate the rapper lifestyle then shouldn't record companies, radio stations, television stations etc. that promote and play such music bear some of the burden? Couldn't they take a hardcore stance against selling or playing it, they have before (ex. Cop Killer), why not broaden it. The less it gets out the less influential it becomes, if what you say is true.

I didn't mean rap music is the end all be all, what I was more trying to say is, that's the lifestyle of most in the inner city or hoods. Basically it's just a repeating cycle for decades now. Have to fix yourself before fixing others is what I was trying to say. of course there are always exceptions but to blame the media and others on this image IS the problem. Take responsibility and blame and not point the finger at someone else.

Anywho I'm done with the subject for the night.

The problem is when people use those statistics to also race bait. That's what I was calling out there. It's like what Kirsten Power said on Fox News.

Also when they continue to just accept this as true what they are saying to other people is. "These are the facts so it's okay to profile and stereotype because that's the truth in it."

I agree with that. I've said earlier that I don't think a civil trail on race will go far. There is not much evidence or any at all that says that Zimmerman was a racist and went out to kill Trayvon because he was black.

I sincerely thank you for that too. No one likes to be judged because of what someone else did. It's not fair to anyone obviously.

I never said they are made up? Sooo...wonder if you read what I wrote or just trying to create a stickman.

The truth is those stats are used for race baiting by the KKK. I said that people use those stats to race bait and suggest that black people are more violent. Never said they are made up facts.
