My goal is to dunk by the end of 2013. I am 6'1, and roughly weigh 175. Starting next month, I'm going to be going to the gym at least 2-3 times a week. I need some tips, since my vertical is pretty pathetic at the moment. Anyone here have some tips to share on what you did to increase your vertical? Thanks in advance.
Squats, dead lifts, plyometrics, planks, sit ups, crunches. Jumping is a core based activity. Strong core leads to increased jumping.
I did air assault in high school and got to grab rim, but that could've also been due to growth spurts. It was all bodyweight plyo stuff, squats, calf raises, step-up, jumping. Other stuff I read later on, I think from vertical jump bible, claimed that AA was too harsh on the knees, and including weights was much better.
Nope, I can't touch a 10 foot rim, although I can get pretty close. There is a park near my house that has a rim that's about 2-3 inches shorter than official height that I can grab.
6-1 and can't touch rim? GL man, sounds like you need to add 8 or 9 inches Make sure you stretch quite a bit in addition to above. Ditto on core/abs advice
Lose weight and resistance jumping exercises is what I hear, like a rubber band that makes it harder for you to jump.
