It's amazing how a 20ppg player can be had for the vet minimum just a few seasons later (while in his prime). That just goes to show how talented players are in this league and how fragile success is. That said, welcome back AB. I still think the guy is valuable and more than capable for short stints as instant offense off the bench.
His young age notwithstanding, AB has definitely seen better days. The man isn't nearly as quick or effective as he once was.
Unbelievable! Now at 50 pages of story about a point guard that signed a 1 year min contract in a team that had just signed over $20 mil. a year superstar for max deal. I wonder if it's only me, but I really feel that this is a bit excessive.
AB was traded due to his demands that he be paid at FA. He valued himself more greatly than did DM the (now assistant) GM. That started an elevator ride of mojo into the basement. Between a rough fit in the desert, China, and SacTown AB lost 'it', the mojo, that gave him that extra jet. IMO if AB can reenergize that inner AB then this is a steal of a deal. If he cannot? There just ain't much downside, folks. Welcome HOME, fella, you belong - - you fit - - at TheToyShop!
Multiple Lin threads pop up daily. It's more threads about Lin than any other player and he's not the best player... No where near it. But do you ever question that or call it excessive...? But yet you stick your big ol nose and here and throw your worthless 2 cents in about a Brooks thread. Don't be a hater or racist (as the LOFs like to say).
You might be simplifying it a tad. I think what you're seeing are fans acknowledging AB's contribution to the team. He is not just a player - he has history with us. Regardless of what your opinion of him might be, he was interesting to talk about him here in clutchfans then and apparently, even now.
I don't think that you have to justify very much a 1 year min deal signing. Anything the guy does is money in the bank. I believe that the signing as the 16th man was the factor that brought in the trade suspicions. It can't be that AB was not available when the other 15 guys were signed. I don't have any problem with Lin. You have to love the guy coming from nowhere and almost derail the league. He also had a bad injury and I give him that too. But the NBA is a very cruel community. The honeymoon is over in no time an time to perform will face you. I think he can make it, but he has to prove it. Simple as that. The GMs are also looking for something called fit for purpose. You can have a great player, but if he doesn't mesh, he will be looking at trade. The team needs to adjust to Dwight. Is it good for Lin or not will be decided in Morey's head during the pre-season or on the floor during the season.
If the Rockets starting PG was anyone BUT Lin, this thread would just be as you said, along with a bunch of posts reminiscing about Brooks' 2009 playoff heroics and wishing he can be that guy again.
There actually is NOT multiple Lin threads every day at the moment. Right now only 1 single dedicated Lin thread in the first 2 GARM pages. Though yes, the Lin topic itself still gets added into every other thread within the posts, and discussion involves Lin Point guard controversies arent new anyway. Its been half a decade of this since Rafer Alston
It's true... Whether it was Rafer, Brooks, Lowry, Dragic, Lin, or even Scott Machado. PG threads are very divisive for some reason. Personally I've always been pretty content with our PG options. Right now might actually be the best potential PG rotation we've had in 6-7 years. I don't care about contracts because I'm not paying the payroll. I think all three guys can contribute to the team winning if used properly. We'll see how it all shakes out.
BS... Two threads popped up about Lin yesterday and they're on the first page right now. And one will probably be made before the day is out. That's fine and nothing is wrong with it, but Brooks has one page and people are hating.
Brooks has had doubters every time he's been here. Nobody can say with certainty how he will play this season, but they want him to fail to justify their past opinions. Yes, Morey keeps letting him go - but yet Morey keeps bringing him back. He is another guy with a competitive personality, and that's what I like to see on the Rockets.
It's not about justifying anything. If people want to discuss Brooks they can. Brooks does have a fan base around here. He had "Linsanity" for a entire year and not just a handful of games while Yao and T-Mac were falling apart around him. The Rockets only won one playoff series in Lord knows how long and he was a part of it. He put up 34 points against the Lakers in a playoff win. Brooks isn't the same player after Manu stole his soul but he still should get love around here from Rockets fans who where hear to see him play. Do I think he will start _ hell no. He may not even be on the team all year but I'm glad he's here because Beverley is still kind of a rookie and I don't know what type of playoff player Lin is so Brooks is good to have.
For the last 3 years, the doubters have been right about Brooks. Morey brings him back because he still has more NBA potential than most guys you can sign off the street and comes cheap and at no cost to the team's salary flexibility. Not sure what people don't get about 1 year, minimum contract.
It's obvious Morey isn't completely sold on the point guard position. Neither Lin or Beverley have shown that they are the best guards to be in the backcourt with Harden. But I trust Morey when it comes to point guards and that's why I'm extremely excited about Isaiah (that in the fact that the kid is a straight baller).
The doubters were sure squirming around during the 2009 playoffs. And the Thunder series, while not definitive, showed that he could be a flash off of the bench (and that was without any significant practice time with the team). I wouldn't put him ahead of Lin or Beverley, no. Not now. But a 1 year vet minimum for Brooks is a no-lose proposition in my mind. Plus I'm inclined to believe that anything that happens on the Sacramento Kings should be ignored. Whether it's Jimmer, Cousins, Hayes, or Brooks.
Morey is smarter than folks posting on this board - he knows Brooks value - a nice solid option at PG - either as a 3rd, 2nd or 1st PG, the guy is a good pickup. The doubters - meh, they can't let go of the past. DD
Just wait folks, in 4 months the Garm will be littered with Isaiah Cannan Circle-jerks. Tis is how clutch-fans works.
No they haven't. People were doubting him before his injury, and its only because of that he started to fall apart. His later play is a consequence of the lockout and having to play for two really bad teams. If he is given the opportunity this year for PT and doesn't perform I will accept the fact he has nothing to give. At this point though I think he can still be a GREAT bench player.
exactly. Nobody is overrating him. They are just talking about his potential, at the contract he is signed to its almost a no-lose situation yet you still have people crying because they are LOF or because they have been staunch Brooks haters in the past.
