I didn't see this posted. Very interesting. I love reading this. The Rockets have such a rich history with the Center position.

Chronicle: Coaches don't seem to use centers the way they used to. The idea of dumping the ball in to the center and move around him does not seem to be done anymore. Is that what happened to the position?

Olajuwon: You cannot change the fundamentals. The center position is the permanent position for any team. A true big guy who is active can give you a defensive game, shot-blocking, rebounding, activity. Then on offense you have to establish an inside game.

Sampson: And that leads to an outside game.

Olajuwon: That's right. That's the fundamentals of basketball. You cannot change that. Now, you need a center to really play that position to show the importance of that position. I think that's what Dwight is bringing to this team.

I haven't seen that article before. Thanks for posting. A rockets team without a legitimate big is weird to me. I'm glad we have 2 at the moment.

It doesn't feel right without Moses.

Yeah, I was hoping we'd read something from Elvin and Moses, as well. Obviously, for whatever reason Moses didn't show up. Not sure if Hayes was in on this or not, but I would have loved reading his perspective on the position.

It's interesting to see how much passion Hakeem still has for the game and position. I like that he stressed Defense and rebounding, hopefully Dwight soaked that up.

Just have to highlight this part from Howard. Been watching and following him since he entered the league, what he said here really makes me very proud of him. With such selfless attitudes from him, Harden, Lin and Chandler, sky is the limit for this team. Just love these guys!

For those of us old enough to remember Akeem/Hakeem in his first few years, this is pretty damn funny.

you must fokus and give big man bol to be unbeetable. Sammy give me bol!

the yao comment on his wife being a center at home was hilarious.
and having seven turnovers in one half playing guard? how is that different to our sg & pg?
yao a point center. damn, wish these guys could still play.

I just read it and immediately came on CF to see if someone posted it.

Love this article, it's almost one of those articles where you wouldn't want it to end and just take your slow time reading it.

Noooo don't encourage Dwight to post-up, he ranked 121st on post-up efficiency (.74 PPP) via Synergy Sports.

Like Calf Fudge illustrated in his quality article that even Daryl Morey retweeted, Rockets can be the best offense in the league if Dwight commits to the pick and roll where he ranks 9th (1.29 PPP) shooting a monstrous 79.5%fg.
