I have spent the last year intentionally staying completely out of the Lin debate. I am a patient person so I easily wait a year before I pass judgement on a player. It seems only fair. Without a season to digest how can anyone have an solid fact based opinion about a player? So, about a year from his signing I decided to gather my thoughts about Lin in one thread and post them. 1: Lin was an average starting PG in the NBA last season by the numbers. He will most probably never again reach Linsanity numbers. 2: Playing next to Harden will reduce any point guards points and assists. 3: Lin is young and quite possibly could improve his game as he matures. 4: Lin, playing next to Harden last season, was asked by the Rockets to transition his game from a scoring PG to that of a combo guard/point guard with above average 3 point shooting. Lin made progress in that area. His 3 point shooting was significantly better at the end of the season. 5: Lin needs to get better (or maintain his end of season form) on 3 point shots. 6: Lin has top notch acceleration on a drive to the basket (per Morey). A critical ability for guards in the NBA. 7: Every Rocket will be better with the addition of Howard. Lin included. 8: 42 points and 16 assists from the guards is championship material. Without doing the research it probably would rank right up there with the best championship guard duo's in the history of the game. Those numbers should be achievable by Harden and Lin. They were at 38 and 13 last season. The Howard effect should not be underestimated. 9: Lin can get seriously burned by the fastest point guards. The same can be said about every other point guard in the NBA. He is a decent defender. His height and quickness should allow him to defend the best point guards in the league as well as they can be defended. 10: Lin is a very marketable player. The NBA and the Rockets make more money from Lin's participation than 95% of the players. 11: Lin is obviously a "fun" guy. He hangs with Parsons. How does this help? Recruiting. Do you have any doubts that Dwight will have a fun time with those two? I do not. If you have a content, successful and happy Harden and Howard what talent is going to follow them to the Rockets? 12: Lin is about the same age as the core of the Rockets rotation. I cannot stress enough how important that is. Lin, Parsons and Harden reaching their prime years in three years, with Howard in his prime is championship material. Heat like championship material. Is Lin a better prospect than Lilliard or Irving? Hell no. Is there any chance of trading for a great young PG in the near future? Hell no. Will Lin be a well above average point guard in the NBA next season? I honestly do believe so. The jury is still out. I recommend patience.
oh really? Tbh, you said this was your first time talking about Lin so you are just a product of unfortunate circumstances with the other 48754985734985493 Lin Threads.

OK, you seem to have a fairly balanced, optimistic perspective on Lin. I just think that comments like "he'll be well above average" are hard to justify. Remember that there are 30 starting PG's in the NBA, and to be "well above average" he would have to be sitting pretty in the top 10. I also don't join the Lin debates much (other than to take potshots at repeat offenders), but I'm OK having him on the team. He's a good player. I'm also OK with moving him for an upgrade. (also, as you can tell from the other comments... your timing was poor.)
I agree but, another day another lin thread <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoy_en_la_revolucion/8529137575/" title="source-code-f1-804380 by *The last son of krypton*, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8388/8529137575_2334efa3cd.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="source-code-f1-804380"></a>
still trying to figure out how anyone on this board could spell his name wrong on this board... it's only been written about thousands of times.
I do have to say that I have spent the last year (and 1100 posts) staying completely out of the Lin debate. I, unlike 99.9% of CF posters, have reserved judgement until I could get enough information. That truly should count for something.
What gets me is people saying bring back Lowry or Dragic...i watched both of those guys play in many games last year and they're a wash along with Lin...all 3 are at the same level right.
LOL - if I expressed an opinion about Lin I must have been stupendously drunk! But other than that I am pretty sure it was not me.
