    Better than Jimmer?

What I just meant is that even if your a good shooter in college, it just doesn't translate automatically in NBA. You have to prove yourself all over again as NBA def is different from NCAA def.

Lol. Every team in the league would be glad to have a "Curry like shooter". We could also stand a "Lebron like small forward" and a "Love like power forward".

No. I think Howard and Beverley are. What they need behind those two are solid backups. Camby and Brooks are solid backups. If you have to lose your backup to Howard (Asik) then make sure you have one already before you trade him otherwise you are screwed. That is what Morey is doing here. He is playing chess not checkers.

Beverly's per 36 numbers are worse than the guy you suggest he replace. More importantly, the sample size is so small that projecting/expecting Beverly to be a starting caliber point guard is a leap of faith that I'm not willing to make.

Marcus camby is a substantial downgrade from Asik. While his rebounding numbers in the last few years look attractive for a backup, he is worthless on offense and his defense is average at best - there is a reason that even a team dying for interior help like NYK aren't bringing him back.

Is it possible the pursuit of camby and brooks are because he is looking to deal Lin and Asik? Sure. It's also possible he's looking to deal Beverly and Smith. Or maybe they aren't dealing anyone and are fine going 2 deep at SG and 2 deep at PF

Maybe they agreed just to state that publicly, so Howard's image won't take another hit, with the Rockets secretly promising to trade each player in the future.

    Bill Ingram ‏@TheRocketGuy

Apparently there is a rumor floating around that Houston is talking to Boston about Rondo. Dwight's camp is adamantly against that. Unlikely

Why would Howard not want to play with Rondo, but want to Lin to stay? Lin said before Rondo is one of his favorite players who he tries to emulate his game after.

The free agent signings (Brooks & Camby if it happens) seem to be preparing for trades.

At the same time, there is no guarantee the Rockets will keep any promises they made to Howard.

Lin has his faults, but you are losing the best pg athlete on the team (if you factor in height, weight, speed) if you trade him, and that will be sorely missed. Beverly is one of my favorite players on the team, but I am very reluctant to trade Lin because of those components which he brings the team.

As long nothing happens before training camp, where I anticipate Asik will match or outplay Howard, Asik is safe. It would make me mad if they trade Asik before then because I'm sure it would be because they are afraid they will look bad if Asik is better than Howard next season. Although, I don't think they are that dumb or care particularly. At least I hope so. I think they are smart enough to wait for Howard to dominate the inside over a stretch of 3 or 4 months first. Even if there is only a minute chance of that happening, they will be ready in case.

No one wants to play with Rondo. One reason why all the stars including the coaches left Boston.

Asik outplay Howard? Did you watch any of the games this year? I love Omer but Dwight killed him head to head last season and Howard wasn't healthy.

Hmmmm, I guess that is a good point about Rondo. Howard would be familiar with him because they met in the playoffs, but I'm not sure.

He never played on the same team as Rondo. How can it be all about Rondo's personality & nothing to do with playing style?

Anyway, it doesn't matter what Howard wants because he has zero power.

He can not be a free agent for 3 seasons minimum, so he can not threaten leaving if the offense isn't to his liking or force a coaching change in order to stay with the team as he is under contract.

It would just make him look bad if he starts complaining because he chose the Rockets. He could have got more shots with Dallas or Golden State.

There is also Asik always waiting in the wings able to take his minutes if he doesn't play at a high level. McHale has job security and backing of the owner & gm, so he is not at risk of being fired.

It is the same thing with Harden. He had a position of power last season because he was the one max contract player. Now Howard will be paid $7 million more than him.

So all the power has shifted to McHale.

He can bench anybody if it is appropriate and doesn't have to cater to anybody or give preferential treatment to anybody for any reason, just like Popovich. The only difference between Howard & Harden is there isn't a lot of talent at backup 2 guard, unless they go small.

When I say outplay, I mean when the Rockets have team scrimmages which team will be better, Asik's team or Howard's team.

The Rockets were a much better team than the Lakers last year, I think a direct correlation that Asik was also much better than Howard, despite their stats or team records being good indications of this.

That isn't true in the slightest. Kevin Garnett loves Rondo and vice-versa.

“I had my connections there,” Garnett said. “It’s tough leaving Rondo and other things. But new chapters. New things to embrace and that’s what I’m doing.”

IDK Rondo might have a big ego. He did clash with Doc in Boston.

That doesn't really make sense because I"m assuming Omer will be playing with the second team. So you think our reserves will consistently beat Howard, Harden. Parsons, TJones, and the other guy?

Sorry no edit feature. Of course I"m a Rockets fan and we were ahead of LA for most of the season but we finished behind them in the standings and how does Omer's 10-11 best D12's 17-12. Don't see how you can argue the Rockets were much better or that Asik was much better than D12?

Beverley and Smith have some cheap contracts. Probably would have to throw in Asik to make a trade with them work.

Why would anyone quote Bill Igram? I trust Chris Broussard over him.

How much backup time can Camby really give you? Guy was solid for us but at the same time he's already nearing 40 years old, and unlike someone like Deke Camby's not really known for elite D...he has a rep for waiting to block shots instead of bodying up his man, and with old age I think that habit's only gotten worse. I think he's a nice insurance just in case we get an Asik offer we can't refuse, but at the same time I'd like it if we just ran out 3 centers+DMo on the C and PF slots at all times, unlike most centers Camby's scoring is actually via mid-range shots.

Huh? I wonder how much you follow the NBA because the coach is generally the most expendable person on an NBA team. If it's between McHale or Howard, McHale has 0 chance.

It's a superstar league and they call the shots.

Very few coaches are at the level of the superstar players. It's basically Popovich and Phil Jackson. George Karl led the Nuggets to almost 60 games and the front office had no issues giving him the boot.
