I know Brooks has had some crazy games, but the guy is not the same player. Let's be honest, he was never that player to begin with. It's one thing when you're 23, new to the league, and showing flashes of potential. The player that exists in your mind is not the guy who is actually on the floor then - that's the guy who is on the floor + your hopes for the future. Now he's 28, none of his flaws have been fixed, he's lost a step, and only one team in the NBA is willing to take a chance on him after being waved twice (once by that same team). He's a decent bench player and can get hot if he's given open shots, but he was never the best facilitator and can't create his own shots. He's the guard equivalent of a 3&D guy, except he never had any D to begin with. Overall, Beverley is by far a better player than Brooks, and Beverley is still a backup on this team. At some point, you have to call a chair a chair and stop trying to make it your Thanksgiving feast dinner table.
Sometimes it is better to remain quiet and only be thought as ignorant than to speak and remove all doubt.
I think Brooks was signed because of one skill only, that being his outside shooting. If you run a PnR thru Harden and Howard, Brooks will get that shoulder 3 wide open every time. I seem to recall that he was almost as good from that spot as he was from the baseline three, back when he was our starter. This could be a boon because we all know Chandler is bad from that spot but insanely good from the baseline. Offensively Brooks complements pretty well all our other weapons out there. Defensively, well, Howard's still there...

I like that, a player being unselfish and letting his kids decide or at least have a say in it. Brooks is a good man, sounds like he's really matured because he was a serious baby with an ego after that injury and MIP season.
Good point. Where to look up? BTW, is he the one who was named after Isaiah Thomas because his dad list a bet?
I now have a whole new level of respect for you, Bima! Don't think anyone has explained these complicated Bird stuffs as clear as you. Hats off.
*lost Seemed to recall reading that his dad is a bball fan and made a bet with his friend as to who would win that year's certain something... Anyone knows?
Except that someone can really light it up game after game if given the ball, if that someone is who I think you are referring to...
I love Brooks but I don't quite see this as a guaranteed fit. As others have pointed out, Brooks was not that good at passing the ball into low post when he played with Yao. Also, the pick-and-roll isn't his strong suit, nor is the catch-and-shoot. And as far as I can tell, it's one of those two plays that we will need our perimeter guys to be good at. If he were the Brooks of yesteryear who can generate instant offense and whose speed can wreak havoc on the opposing team's defense, he'd be a great sparkplug off the bench. But if not, it's not clear to me how he will be used yet.
I've always trusted Morey and point guards. Lin was an excellent choice. Beverly was a great pick up. Canaan looks promising. Brooks brings back some extra back up. Don't expect him to play too much, as Lin as starter and Bev as backup PG is more than enough. But safe to say, we are settled at the PG position! Lin-Bev-AB is a solid rotation.
Then he got injured and lost his quickness and then got traded and somehow has not been able to play at the same level...so unless you think Lin will also get injured and suffer the same date????
With all due respect, I would be a Rockets' season ticket holder in a heart beat if Houston isn't 1600 miles away
