Fox News’ Chris Wallace: No, Obama Isn’t Stoking Racial Tensions With Trayvon Remarks

The host of "Fox News Sunday" Chris Wallace rebutted the suggestion made by some conservatives that President Barack Obama was stoking racial tensions by wading so deeply into the the issue of the George Zimmerman verdict on Friday.

"I thought he was trying to help both sides of the divide understand, and I thought he was especially moving when he talked about the new generation, talked about his daughters and the idea that the new generation, the upcoming generation, is better than people of our ages were in the sense they're more color blind, they don't see whites see black or blacks see whites as much of a threat," the veteran journalist said on Fox News.

"I thought he was trying to deal with it in a forthright fashion," he added. "Whether it was his race speech during the 2008 campaign or other speeches, this is when the President can be most effective. The speech he gave after the senseless shooting of Gabby Giffords in Tucson about violence in our society--Boy, I sure don't see how you can read this as in any way stoking racial tensions."

Space Ghost seems to be on an island on this one, along with the crazies.

I was unaware bashing someones head on concrete, in such a violent fashion, that you are fearful of your life, would leave scratches. I am surprised he wasn't knocked out from repeated hits to the head.

Is it just me, or did the part that discussed subtle racism situations seem straight out a movie?

G(ee)Z, Granville, don't get so upset. I was just kidding around.

You're the one who had to go back to your beliefs about the case instead of the actual thread topic. But it's absolutely your right (as opposed to you're right, mind you).

Anyone criticizing should read the speech first. Well written speech by the prez, and with the anger and frustration felt by a lot of Americans about the case, probably a good idea to say something that may help calm tensions down to a degree.

My only question is why is Eric Holder reviewing this? I realize this is a well publicized case, but it is totally ridiculous that he is looking into this. I guess he should start looking into every case where an unarmed man or woman is murdered and the killer gets an acquittal. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Like the verdict or not, this is our justice system and why should one case get preferential treatment if the outcome is not to a particular group's liking?

    regardless, good speech.

Great post. There is precedent, of course, for the DOJ to look at cases with overt racial bias, but based on the evidence we have to go on, that minimal level is not met here. it is probably just the government trying to look responsive to all the protestors.

I actually like that Obama seemed to suggest nothing will be happening at the federal level with this tortured case. I hope that's true -- it needs to end already.

EDIT: as I see more of trial photos are emerging (le sigh), want to thank you for sticking to the thread topic.

I think we're all forgetting Obama is black as well. He's going to have an obvious bias when events like this occur no matter how hard he tries to be as objective as possible. That being said, had the president avoided this, everyone would be calling him a traitor to the black community, weak, non confrontational, scared, etc. He can't win in the eyes of conservatives anyway.

No, you were being an ass which is the liberal MO around these parts.

I said I agreed with most of what Obama said. I defined what I didn't agree with.

Obama gave a bad analogy. Both guys profiled each other that night. Both guys saw someone who thought the other was behaving suspiciously.

One guy saw some who he thought might be a burglar and reported it to the Police.

The other guy racially profiled the other guy as a creepy ass cracka and according to Jeantel felt the creepy part meant TM was afraid that GZ wanted to penetrate his bunghole. We can add homophobe to the list here. Again according to Jeantel, TM didn't want to bring this creep in the direction of Tracy Martin's GF house so instead of calling Police he unleashed New School Whoop Ass Justice. TM's new school class must have let out before they went over the part where the recipient of Whoop Ass justice might have a gun.

What a reckless act by Obama, disgracing the office of the Presidency. He is purposefully stoking racial tension and giving credence to the false narrative that is still being pushed by the race hustlers and the media (in spite of the facts contradicting their position). The office of the Presidency sinks to a new level. I also think this is a very bad move politically for him, as most people really detest the type of person that Trayvon Martin represents (violence, drugs, thuggery).
