I don't think D-Mo will ever be Dirk but this is an unfair comparison. Dirk was free to do what he wanted at 22. I'm not a fan of how much they reigned in D-Mo last year but his D was really bad. Let's see if his new 260 lbs frame makes a difference. Funny that he is now playing with Dwight after his smart ass comment when he got drafted about Dwight having to catch him first.
He didn't specifically but the other day in a radio interview he mentioned that Hakeem would be a part of the organization and would be there to work with "Dwight AND the other bigs"..... I'm assuming that does include Motiejunas. With Dwight, Asik, Smith, Motiejunas & maybe Jones, they have just about the right amount of people to run through big man specialized skill drills as a group. With a group that size the players can learn from each other, and have a little competition within the group. Im sure Dwight will get most of the one-on-one work with Hakeem, McHale, and maybe Dawson, but there is more than enough time in the next few months, and during the season for D-Mo to also get some tutoring from all three.
I would love to see D-Mo have a breakout year (I'd love to see all the Rockets have breakout years!) but let's be real here: He's no Dirk - not even close. The reason he didn't put up all-star type numbers isn't because he was "reigned in." It's because he's not that good. He can be good, but Dirk is a first ballot Hall of Famer. So to be fair to D-Mo, let's not try to measure the two against each other. That's all I was trying to get to.
I agree. People get focused in comparisons. But Dirk has been elite taking his team to 2 NBA finals. Winning 1 title. Donuts should hope to be a solid role player first. The guy playing to the next plain is Chandler. Donut has potential, but so does everyone playing in the NBA. He cannot be compared to one of the games greatest, just because he European. He has done nothing to prove he is special.
Donatas is more Gasol than Dirk. Look at his post game since he was in Europe. Crafty with a jump hook. My dream is he becomes a Gasol type player with 3 range when left wide open.
People should stop with the damn comparisons already! It happened with Lin and it's happening with Dmo, just as it happens with every other young player with potential. Guys, dmo will be dmo, and in the future, young players will be compared to dmo!
I don't think Omer weighs 256 lbs anymore. That has to be an older number. D-mo at 260 is nice though. Hopefully he's gaining a lot of lower body strength. I think he's got all the moves he needs. He just has to get the speed right and learn to play some D.
Donuts is quietly turning into a monster...training camp needs to get here I gotta see him with the team.
What is going on here...? Are they going sailing to build team chemistry? Are they going to work the sails for cardio? Will they take them 10 miles out, push them off the boat and the first 5 to make it back will be the starters?
