Man, you guys are crazy on the "girl" front. Sex with a stranger is really exciting the first few times, (if she's really into it, that is), but 10 years with someone you've never met? Damn. Ten years in one room with *anybody* would get pretty horrible.

    Skylight
    Workout equipment
    Library
    Kitchen
    Phone

    Those are my top priorities.

Just give me the 18-year old, the booze and the video games and I'm set for life.

The gym is a sucker item. You can work out using your own body weight for resistance. Paying 5 points for some weights and maybe a treadmill is way too much.

I don't know about that. The thing doesn't really say how much room you will have to begin with. So adding a basketball court in terms of size would be HUGE. Of course if you get a library filled with every book published then that would be more beneficial. I guess you could always find something to use as weights instead.

A lot of you guys aren't thinking deep enough, and some of these things would occur to you after you're locked up.

There are three vital needs here:

-A Kitchen can provide a ton of ingredients for other household needs. Also it provides recreation. It provides what you need to create alcohol. It provides what you need to create hygiene and cleaning agents.

-A Library will provide infinite knowledge in terms of your ability to access it. It also provides room. A library with every book ever? It would be square miles. You could use it as a refuge from your 18-year-old girlfriend. You could use it as a running track.

-Medical. Dental is medical, and you need dental. Look at Tom Hanks in Castaway. You can use your book-gleened knowledge to game the system to acquire drugs for recreation and sleeping aids to knock out your annoying girlfriend if you need quiet. You can get sunlight prescribed.

    Borderline needs:

You need company; again look at Tom Hanks in Castaway. His best friend was a volleyball. So girl, Bonds or a pet. A phone or internet may just exacerbate the need for physical companionship. You're also going to want to get laid as it's one of the basic animal needs.

Garden: I'm assuming that they provide fertilizers. If so, there's a key ingredient in an escape plan: nitrogen for blowing your way out. Other than that, gardens are a nice zen escape. The game doesn't specify if there's actually air, so if that's a trick, then a garden is a must. Of course, you can get all sorts of fun plants for recreational purposes.

    Maybe Needed:

If you have family you want to talk to, a phone or maybe internet for email/IM.
A workshop to build your escape devices and for recreation.
A gun for your escape plan.

    Unneeded:

Booze, drugs, tobacco: You can make this stuff with the above.
Gym: do body weight exercises, run around your library, lift the books.
Brain Candy: TV, Video Games, Music. You don't need this stuff, and there is plenty of brain candy in books.
Internet: you have all of the knowledge you need in your library. You can't download anything. It's too expensive and you need a device to use it with so a phone or computer ups the cost.

On the flip-side, looking at 10 years with no sex. I'll take the girl. I can get along with just about anybody.

Assuming I'm not married with 4 kids:
    Girl 18 (sex and companionship)
    Kitchen 6 (food and entertainment)
Library 4 (education and entertainment; will write the great American novel -- or else at least read it)
Greenhouse 2 (hobby with some mild exercise)

Assuming I AM married with 4 kids:
    Kitchen 6 (food and entertainment)
Cell phone 3 (to talk to the wife and kids)
Stock market 7 (to maximize how much money I can set the family up for, especially considering I'll be losing my job over this)
    TV 7 (entertainment)
Library 4 (education and entertainment; will write the great American novel -- or else at least read it)
Greenhouse 2 (hobby with some mild exercise)
Pool table 1 (to burn my last point)

Internet would have been nice, but it's too expensive. Gym is only useful for the basketball court, but there'd be no one to play against. Dog would be nice, but also too expensive.

Mayo Clinic doctor (3): woman doctor to provide companionship, booze for "toothache," drugs for "back pain," weight loss pills - no need to workout, anti-psychotic medicine - no need for the skylight, Barry Bonds, or the girl
Full Model Train Set (2): cheaper than the workshop, nice warehouse-sized room for running around/working out
Full kitchen (6): Alcohol, food supply
Hygiene and Jacuzzi (3): share Jacuzzi with the doctor
TV with all cable (7): watch movies on HBO and Starz, tv shows on network channels, music channels
Library (4): how-to information, entertainment, and knowledge
Pool Table (1): play with the doctor
    Gun (1): just in case
Cell Phone (3): contact friends and family, play games, listen to music (1 day a week)

    30 Points

That's true, but I included the gym for basketball. I don't really care about the wights so much or anything. I'd just love to have a ton of time for 10 years to work on my ball game. That would be fun as well as exercise.

If I used the rest of the gym at all that would be pure bonus.

    Girl - 18 pts
All movies and shows (I am assuming it includes a TV, DVD player, etc to watch) - 4 pts
All video games (I'm assuming it includes a TV to play on) - 4 pts
    Fast food - 4 pts

I have no hygiene pts. I figure I can use coke to clean up the, um, sticky stuff me and the girl leave behind. And I can use water to clean up the coke.

I am thinking about this more as if I was on a mission to Mars rather than just being stuck in a basement.

For the Internet it says no streaming so I presume that means no YouTube or Pandora. What about email, Facebook and Clutchfans?

Also do you have to select the computer in order to use the Internet?

For all the movies, music and books does that mean all the material at the time you are locked up or does that include new releases as they come out?

    I would go with
6 Kitchen - I like cooking and this will keep me healthier and active than the other food choices.
2 Skylight - Sunlight is a necessity for health.
3 Hygeine products -Necessity for health.
    3 Mayo Clinic Care
6 Workshop - I could build my own gym then and pool table.
7 Cable TV - This way I could keep up with the outside world.
3 Cell phone- So I could communicate with the outside world.
    30 points.

I was really torn about whether to get the Internet or not and that really depends what they mean by streaming and downloading.

As far as the girl while that might be fun for a few months but is an 18 year hottie really the only person you want to talk to and be around for 10 years? I guess by the end she would be 28 but without access to the outside world probably won't be much different intellectually than when she went in just 10 years older.

I don't get why anyone would want the gun. You are in a locked room where presumably no one else can get in and only have 3 bullets. In this type of situation I suspect the gun would most likely be used to off yourself if you got too lonely rather than for anything else.

If you had no one to play against other than shooting free throws how much would your game improve.

16 points for the internet, but you can't download or stream anything? What is the point of having the internet? 10 years in a room with the same person. I am pretty sure you will hate them after a month. I think this whole endeavor will make someone crazy.

I like your thinking. I'd argue the TV would come in handy. I'd like to have the girl. But she's too expensive. So then I'd like to have the internet. But as you noted, you need a computer (or phone) to make that work... also too expensive. So the TV can effectively take the place of (i) companionship, (ii) animal need of sex (even if with yourself... remember you get all the premium channels... which means p*rn to me), (iii) sports and (iv) other entertainment for when your creative mind from books just isn't enough. I mean you can even get radio on tv these days anyway. M

I find sunlight to be of paramount import. Don't need it all the time, but I think over a 10 year period its a must have.

Also, I think the escape plan ideas are nice and all, but I'm going with the assumption that if you want to collect you can't escape. Otherwise everything you get should be geared towards staying alive for a short period of time and escaping.... so you might want booze and the workshop in that case.

Finally, I have to make some assumptions about the cell phone that make it a must have. Which is data or some type of LTE is included in that once a week use. I'd argue for full access to anything over LTE, but if the rules still stipulated no internet, that's fine as long as I get data and a new smartphone. A new smartphone should be able to do video calls over LTE. So I can just call someone I know, and have them set me up to use their computer - probably some way it could be set up via voice activated commands, etc. So the cell phone gets you so much - voice and picture and video access to friends and family plus whatever you could rig up over the LTE.

Finally, I'm going to pretend as if I'm single with no kids. You wouldn't do this with kids, imo. $10 million is not that much money to miss out on 10 years of your kids life. That said, here's mine.

    Full kitchen = 6 points
    52 inch TV = 7 points
    Sunlight = 2 points
    Library = 4 points
    Medical = 2 points
    Garden = 2 points
    Cell phone = 3 points
    = 26 points

Those are my must-haves. That leaves 4 points. I guess I'd spend 1 to upgrade the medical and use the other 3 on hygiene products.
