Thanks for the information. My friend told me some bad things too, so I will not consider a switching to Comcast at least this year.

That's how Direct TV was. I was already told by a buddy who works for them that I can just sign up for another comcast special and get a dicounted rate after a year. They don't have contracts..

yeah- I got a pretty good deal by locking into a 1-yr contract.

My most recent frustration came after my third dvr broke and they let me know that the upgrading to the new whole home dvr would cost me $33.00 and that they would have to begin charging for my secondary receivers if I upgraded to the newer unit. This of course, ran counter to the promise from the initial sales rep that stated I would be upgraded for free the moment the new box was out.

The response from the person at the Comcast store in the Woodlands as I expressed my frustration about being misled.... "well, I'm sorry you were lied to, but you got a really good deal and should be happy with what you have"

btw - my dvr had been down for two consecutive weeks at that point.

I immediately asked her to marry me.

DirectTV hard sells me every time I step foot in Fry's on 45. Drives me crazy dealing with them, nothing turns me off faster than a hard sell.

I'm pretty happy with uVerse but I need my Rockets and Astros.

The ala-carte model (the future) will doom satellite/cable companies. Only those offering high-speed internet as well will survive (Comcast/Uverse).

Hell, an ala-carte model would likely IMPROVE quality of programming... i'm talking mainly about how crappy ESPN has become.

Went to Sam's Club yesterday and the Direct TV sales guy told me that they will cover the rockets game this year.

right..... told him, talk to me when it's there. whoever gets CSN first, except comcrap, gets my business.

He has no idea what he's talking about. Obviously just trying to get a quick sale.

I think the problem with this whole cluster of a situation is that both sides are trying to agree on terms that will be locked in for 20 years. Why can't they just negotiate a 5 year contract, see how it goes and then come back to the table before it runs out?

Because the future will be ala-carte, and these guys all know that. Teams/channels trying to get the most money now, as every year that goes by this model becomes closer to extinction.

Teams will not be able to get these sort of rights deals in such a model (ala-carte)... the bubble has already burst.

This quote (with typo?) seems to confirm that the DTV guy is correct:

The decision for the move showed up as a boon for Comcast' Houston sports network. The presence of the three-time Defensive Player of the Year in Houston gives Comcast the immediate boost since it ultimately convince Dish Network Corp and DirecTV to shell out rights to carry Comcast's Houston network during the game season.
... as if there is some agreement.

Man I hope something can be done. LZ on 790 said the other day that he heard Uverse will be the first to jump because they fear losing people to comcast more than the satellite providers.

    Anyone else hear anything recently?

    Damn.I.will.be.forced.back.to.comcast.

Guess I have to cancel with directv because of this when the season starts. Comcast wins, they're lucky the Rockets signed Dwight.

I personally believe this is due to a lack of reading comprehension on the part of many consumers.

Usually, reading the fine print shall indicate the pricing in the future.

Same goes for DirecTV, and especially Uverse.

Seriously. I can't go 2 seasons without my beloved Rockets - Dwight or no Dwight.

If this crap isn't settled by the preseason, I'm just going to have to lube up, bend over, and take it like a man.

Not really, most channels would die because they aren't popular enough.

Remind me again..if a Rockets game is on ESPN or TNT, it's not blacked out here in Houston on those channels...is it?

I'm a Comcast user but I've heard that they want way too much for CSN which only provides Rockets games. It doesn't offer nearly as much what FSN does or did.

The Rockets and Astros made a bad choice, now they're having to deal with the repercussions. Hopefully the HD quality streams will still be around next season

Not blacked out if it's on TNT or ESPN. If it's on NBA TV, it is blacked out
