Also, no way- that sounds like a scam 100%. General rule of thumb I live by- if your story is too long and complicated, then odds are that you're not being honest. I learned that firsthand.

Yeah you did it right. I've had a few similar situations, but none at my own house. That would make me an unhappy man if someone walked up to my house trying to pull some shizz. If anything, you were too nice.

 

Also depends what time of day it is. If it is in the evening a definite hell to the no. Seems like you assessed the situation just right and if anything were too polite to this shady character.

I always have an A, B, and C strike plan to get out of any potentially life-threatening situation. I would have done an ocular assessment of the situation, garnered that he was not a security risk, and cleared him. I'm simply talking about breaking down the security situation, clearing an individual, and making it safe for passage.

You absolutely did the right thing. He was likely trying to pull a scam on you. He could have had you drive him to where his buddies were waiting to rob you.

Did he say why it wasn't possible to call someone he knows to come help him?

 

Did you ask him if he wanted a ride or a ride ride?

 

He was probably going to lead you down some dead end road with no one around, then either pull out his gun or have his accomplices ambush you, kidnap you, then kill you.

I would have done the same thing, except no way would I have mentioned my wife was inside. The fact that you annoyed him by taking so long means he probably wasn't in trouble to begin with.

 

I would have straight up told him the situation was too sketchy for me to do help him.
