Harden's TS% is a function of how much he gets to the FT line, which in turn is a function of how much he has the ball in his hands plus inclination to drive.

Lin's TS% is pretty high too at 54%: One could argue that since Harden is a better 3PT shooter, Lin should be driving the lane more and that Harden should focus on getting his 3PT% to 40%.

I'm not sure where you get 40% from -- why is that the magic number that will allow Lin to equalize the defense?

Lin was coming back from knee surgery last year. His 3pt shooting % would have been much higher than 33% if he was healthy, and if Harden didn't pass him the ball w/ 2 sec on the shot clock to take so many contested 3's.

There are lot of answers to be decided. But the personel is enviable for all but a handfull of teams. the team chemistry will be the deciding factor.

And who is going to take over the game in the last five minutes.

Honestly, I hope they abandon this "3's or layups only" crap. It only works on paper, and ends up giving other teams more points on the other end. Bring back the midrange game, it worked fine for Miami and the Spurs. That will be the key.

If you are the opposing defense, you set-up your defense to give up the least actually fg percentage - the lowest TS%.

So, when Harden has the ball, his TS% is 60%. That was last year. It's incredibly high. That's why he is a star.

So, when he has the ball, what happens is to compensate, the defense cheats off of one player to try to lower that percentage. Since Lin is shoting x% from 3 point land, which is in effect 1.5x compared to Hardens TS%, they drop off Lin a bit. They also do that to Parsons, and everyone else on the court.

Now you have Howard, so they can't cheat off of him too much. And Parsons keeps them honest on the right side of the court. So that leaves essentially your 4 and Lin.

You can take Lin away if he can hit a 3 at 40% because that's equivalent to a 60% efg, and therefore they can't cheat of Lin since Harden will just pass the ball out for Lin to hit his 40% 3 pointer.

    Do you get it now?
