Why Morey should aggressively pursue a 3rd star: Because Harden/Howard aren't Lebron or Durant

I don't think we have a Lebron or Durant, but Dwight is not terrible far behind those two.

When Dwight is feeling good and playing well he's one of the truly dominant players in the league capable of taking over games.

If we're going to say Harden is batman, that's pretty comparable to Russel Westbrook or Dwayne Wade. Him and Dwight might even feed of each other even better than the two star ball handler model.

Now with the rest of the cast, we don't know what TJones or Dmo are going to give us. That's a question mark, but I'm sure they can both be at least somewhat productive. If one or both become good to very good, then that further weakens the need for a third star.

I have not even talked about Parsons. Parsons is a very good player already. If he takes his game even further this off season that further strengthens your line-up and he could be a borderline all-star type player.

Then you have Lin. He's a box of chocalates, but he could get better and become more consistent with this group of players and having a year under his belt here. Lin has the ability to be a really good player, but he just needs to work on his consistency.

Then we have Omer off the bench. Omer could be a starter for quite a few teams around the league. He and dwight form the best C combination in the league and it's not even close really.

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a deal for an aldrige or Love type player, BUT I'm also not opposed to giving these guys a chance to gel and seeing how they play together. Most of the team is working together this summer...I think we are at the point now where we should let chemistry build within the team.

While neither are perennial all-stars like the poster you quoted said, it is true that they were both all-stars the year the Magic made the finals. Of course, Jameer was injured and didn't play.

Lewis was only twice an All-Star.

Lebron though is the only star to lead his team to the finals without a single all-star on the team with him that year, but I do give Dwight credit for doing something that is incredibly difficult to do; taking a team to the finals without a second star.

Of course, Hakeem won a title without one while both those two got stomped.

We already have our third star who can score if Harden ever went down… J Lin…. Seriously, people have terrible memories…

    Nah, I’m jp, it’s DMO.

We do have a young and upcoming star in Chandler Parsons. That is why we are sticking with what we have right now. If Parsons repeats or improve from this past season. Then there you go and dude will get a nice pay increase.

Let us wait until at least 20 games are played OP.

What if we started the season off 18-2. Will you be asking for a 3rd Superstar?

Dwight is equal to having Shaq in his prime. shaq wasn't dwight or Lebron but he was damn close and a HUGE help to the team.

i think we'll go after a 3rd star to be honest. Either Lin or Asik will go in return.

    On point.

Getting a 3rd star is kinda, "for what!?" in my mind.

You got Dwight now so let the current Rockets work together and see what you have before you start biting off of the Heat model, which is by no means a lock to destroy.....

Spurs should have won that series!

Spurs are the ultimate in team and chemistry and PLAYER DEVELOPMENT....

Which is why they are always good.....

    Take notes

I think the mavs a couple years ago proved that you can build around a few stars ( I really would only consider Dirk a superstar on that team) and with enough depth and chemistry beat the best teams in the league. In the end it's all about matchups. It's easy to say "they're going to win b/c their superstar is more transcendent". But it's not that black and white. It's more complicated than that.

What 3rd superstar can we actually get?

I do think that Howard/Harden/Aldridge is perfect, but the Blazers are not going to trade LMA for Asik/Lin.

Maybe Asik/Lin for an injured Rondo? But the Howard/Harden/Rondo skillset doesn't mesh as well.

A healthy Rondo would be perfect in that line-up.

I remember when Hakeem literally carried the team on his back. It was impressive watching 11 people climb aboard the Dream in 1994. Hakeem was literally killing people out there!

    great post. agreed

windows to winning a championship is small (6 years?) so we need to make the most of it now

Dwight and Harden is not enough

Yes Lebron and Durant are in a class of their own. But it is too early to say if we need a 3rd star. Another superstar for what role exactly? 3rd star doesn't guarantee an instant championship.

Lets see how our existing young talents perform, they are definitely cheaper and got no superstars ego.

And they have been together for some time now, this is a better advantage than a borderline superstar we can get right now anyway. Team greatness needs time.

I assume once we add Lebron at PF and trade Lin for Kyrie Irving, THEN we'll be *there* eh?

    lol
