So it's basically a British cast telling an American slave story. Well at least Steve McQueen is black, that should alleviate some of the social justice warriors. It's getting awards buzz so there's that. By the way, I recommend you watch 'Hunger' and 'Shame' if you wanna know what a McQueen Fassbender picture is like. They're slow, beautiful and unpleasent. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt. ....And Hanz Zimmer did the score. ....durrrr...durrrr....durrrr <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/rMpDUYzLgzY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
That cast is pretty ****ing amazing. Will see. Fair warning for those who might see Shame: it's a great, great movie, but there's no way your penis is as big as Michael Fassbender's.
No, I don't care. But there's always a critique (ie Spike Lee) about something with regard to black stories. The leads and director are all British so they might harp on "no american blacks' factor.

actually this looks more like there will be blood to me. interestingly paul dano is in this. this movie certainly has taken cues from there will be blood.
Not even close. It's a spiritual sequel to White House Down. The working title for the film was Black Man Down.
that film checks every Oscar box, doesn't matter the quality, it's a shoe in, voters eat all that stuff up
It screened for the firs time last night at Telluride. To say that it was higly praised would be an understatement. The movie is based on the true life autobiographical book of free man kidnapped and sold into slavery Solomon Northup.
I watched the director's Hunger recently and if it is anything like that I will be disappointed. That one sucked.
Saw this at the River Oaks. Really really good. Like best of the year good If you know Mcqueen then you know he likes extremely long takes and it works to perfection in all the scenes. Brilliant performances from everyone, beautiful cinematography, good score (Zimmer brings the durrrrrr in one scene), great pacing from beginning to end & a solid story. Paul Dano now has the dubious distinction of getting b-tch slapped by Daniel Day Lewis and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It's gonna come up inevitably but it's nothing like Django Unchained. It's like comparing a fun silly comic book and a great novel. Mixed race crowd, lots of grey hairs and no walk outs. 5 bathroom breaks though during a brutal and graphic scene towards the end.
Unrelated, but I was at river oaks today as well seeing Wadjda upstairs and there were cockroaches all over the place, it was disgusting, which is a shame because I love that theatre
