Mike Miller an option?

Do we have to have a separate thread for literally every single player released by another team? Seriously, folks, there's a reason these guys are being let go by their respective teams -- they're simply not good enough to warrant keeping. I'm still waiting for the inevitable "Juwan Howard -- worth a roster spot?" thread.

I'd love to have Mike Miller from 2004 on my team, but you guys want to clog up our roster with washouts and has-beens because they bring "veteran leadership" and "locker room presence." Screw that -- I want this team of young talented guys to figure out how to win together.

Roster isn't full, you can take 20 into training camp. I'd love Miller on the team personally, think he could bring a different dimension to the bench.

I doubt it would even take the room exception. Artest was probably a more desirable commodity than Miller (though less of a fit here), and he took $1.6 million/year... almost the minimum. With Miller still getting $13 million over the next two years, I think he'd happily sign for close to the minimum.

The key is going to be the fit. With money not much of a factor, I think most contenders will be interested. Probably not the Clippers, given Redick/Dudley, but I could see us, OKC, Memphis, Indiana, Brooklyn, etc. all having some interest. OKC is who stands out the most... after losing Martin, they desperately need some more punch at the wing spots.

I think it'll come down to whether he has any Houston connections... are he and Parsons friends based on the UF alum connection? Does he know Dwight well after all his time in Florida? Etc. My guess is we'll have interest, but so will other contenders, so it's tough to project.

These threads are crowding out all of the Jeremy Lin threads. Clutch needs to do something about it ASAP.

No, it's called amnesty. There are tons of valuable role players that get released every year due to the provision. Is Mike Miller worth $17 million/year over the next two years (his impact on the Heat due to luxury tax)? No. Can he fill a role at the league minimum? Absolutely. Artest was a solid signing for the Knicks under the same circumstance.

This isn't a random thread. Miller is one of the best shooters in the league and a battle-tested veteran, and we've previously stated our interest in surrounding Dwight with both. We also have a clear question mark in the rotation after losing Delfino. Maybe Reggie Williams fills it, but if he can't regularly get in the rotation for the Bobcats, it's far from a done deal. Miller is worth thinking about.

They can't afford to keep him on the roster. They would love to have been able to keep him.

It's pretty simple: If a player is THAT important to your team, you find a way to keep him. Sure, we would have loved to have kept Scola around, but was he really that important to our team's future? No. Same for MWP. Same for Miller. All of these guys are past their prime and have no place on a young, upcoming team like ours.

He's a great fit on this team, especially for the limited role we would ask him to fill.

    Beverley / Lin / Canaan
    Harden / Garcia / Williams
    Parsons / Miller / Casspi
    TJones / DMo / Smith
    Howard / Asik / Smith

We couldn't keep Garcia because of his contract but he was important enough to resign at a much lower cost. I think the same could be said about Miller and Miami...

Mike Miller can still play, and he would bring some much needed playoffs experience to a young team. I'm all for picking him up.

This logic is bizarre. The primary designation for the Rockets isn't a "young, up-and-coming team" anymore. We're a contender. The Rockets legitimately can win an NBA title this season.

As part of his pitch, Morey told Dwight that the team's focus would shift to surrounding the core with proven veterans, much the same way the Heat have surrounded their Big 3 with guys like Miller, Ray Allen, etc. The primary focus isn't on growth anymore. The focus is on each season individually and what we can do to improve our odds.

Is Miller past his prime? Of course. Is he "THAT important" to where you'd move heaven and earth to retain him? Nope. But those questions are irrelevant to the Rockets' mission this year, which is trying to win a championship.

The only relevant questions are: 1) Can Mike Miller potentially upgrade a rotation piece on your probable 2013 playoff roster? Right now, Reggie Williams is in there, so I'd say yes. Beyond that, 2) is the cost too prohibitive to explore? At the league minimum salary, I'd say no.

Almost would want a Random Rockets Free Agent Ideas 2013-2014 Thread.

If he is a free agent and a major news report hasn't connected him to the Rockets, this is the place to post it. Alex Kennedy does not count. Yeah, we know Austin Rivers is a former lottery pick, but when he becomes a free agent shortly, post your desires to sign him here. You have a primal desire that Cole Aldrich be brought back to the Rockets, that goes in here.

    Almost want this.

Uh, no. The time for grooming young talent was before you vaulted yourself into championship consideration by getting Dwight Howard. The window to win a ring starts now, and you never know when it can close(see Yao/T-Mac) The Rockets can spare a developmental guy like BJ Young to make room for a sharpshooter with championship experience in Miller.

Not sure about the other threads that have been posted but I figured this was relevant since we need shooters.
