I would tell them to use their best judgment. Should it happen that they make a less than optimal decision, I would hope that the law would still allow them to defend themselves from a vicious assault.

Whatever, you are trying to justify the killing of someone by saying they were of questionable character in the first place. THe only thing you are doing is showing your own lack of ethics.
If you want to go here then by the very same logic GZ was a racist jonesing to take out a crook and picked TM has his target. How can you not say GZ was not profiling? And based on GZ's record, he is clearly the aggressor and likes to look for trouble.
I swear they treat recreational drug use (that over half the people I know have done as teenagers) as pure evil.
Unfortunately that's the argument the Prosecution trotted out in court. How'd that work out? GZ profiled TM based on the situation and his behavior, not his race.
