Not a lot of players are correctly hyped or appreciated, unless they are superstars and deserving of all the accolades. Other guys are in the shadows until the media plays up their story for ratings - making them a villain, like LA is trying to do to Howard or a "newly discovered star", like they are trying to do for Chandler. The media beast needs to be fed regularly.

The other big factor is salary. When Lin was paid like a scrub but playing well he was a rising star. Now that he's paid like a star but playing only well (not great) he's over-hyped. Chandler is paid nothing right now ("nothing" that I would be happy to accept, mind you). When he gets his next contract he'll be at much great risk of being "over-hyped".

If Parsons can make the all-stars team, NBA will market the living **** out of him. Sponsors will be lining up to sign him as a spokesperson.

if fegan can get sponsors to sign him and get him exposure on shows like these, he will be an all-star.

all-star game is a popularity contest. you can't suck, but you also don't need to be the best at your position.

Chandler is definitely overrated. I don't think many would believe me if I told you he was the same tier player right now as:

    Corey Brewer
    Shane Battier
    Mike Dunleavy
    Wesley Matthews
    Danny Green
    Thabo Sefolosha
    Jared Dudley
    Kyle Korver
    Matt Barnes

    and

    Carlos Delfino

Of course, those are mostly vets, and I would take Chandler over every one of those guys due to his room for growth, and of course contract. Also, for a second year player to already contribute at their level is very promising. And if he can improve as much this year as he did last year, then some of the hype will be warranted. But if we are just talking about right now, he is an average role player. Shows you how scoring and shooting % aren't always the biggest factors in helping a team win.

I'm pretty sure many on here would tell you those guys are better than Lin. And definitely most would believe you. Which makes him the opposite of overrated.

BTW, you left out a few guys in your link:

    Kyrie Irving
    Steve Nash
    Damian Lillard
    Rajon Rondo
    Ty Lawson

    and

    Chandler Parsons

    Oops.

    EDIT:

Why are we talking about Lin again?

It was kind of annoying how they kept on trying to get a championship declaration out of Parsons.

If I'm Fagen, I'm getting my client on one of those NBA Where Amazing Happens commercials

This would make a pretty cool spot

    It is.

But I just noticed that Lin passed up the closer three to set Parsons up for the prayer.

Whatever Fegan is working on to promote Chandler is starting to work. He gained a couple thousands twitter followers in the last little while.

He's better than those guys. No where near all-star player though.

Doesn't matter what people think about Parsons. What matters is that Dwight Howard thinks enough of Parsons that he wants to run with Chandler's team and take his word for it.

Yes because if anything Lin is known for his reluctance to launch a shot. He only took buzzer beaters every other game for the Knicks. Do you guys even care about trying to look logical as opposed to randomly angsty?

It's just lazy trolling. Lin has as many holes in his game as a sieve. If you feel that angry about Lin on the Rockets and Chinese infiltrating the NBA that you gotta snipe at him on a Parson First Take thread pick one of the many legit flaws. Work for a living, don't be like Obama.

and to be fair to Karolik, the first guy butthurt over Lin was SAS in the video, tho Karolik's post seems randomly Lin obsessed it's not totally out of left field.

So Chandler Parsons is overrated in your opinion? Seems he is still a Rockets starter, but where is your guy Marcus Morris -- the next be-all-and-end-all All-Star?

Sorry, but that rating system is junk. How can you take it seriously when it claims that:

    • Mike Conley is rated higher than Dwyane Wade and Stephen Curry.

    • Paul Millsap is rated higher than Russell Westbrook and LaMarcus Aldridge.

    • Deron Williams is rated lower than George Hill and Kyle Lowry.

    • Carmelo Anthony is rated lower than Birdman and Nene.

    • Kobe Bryant is rated lower than Amir Johnson and Anderson Varejao.
