Morality existed long before his god was created to give him meaning in life. Nobody needs to live a lie to have love, compassion, and live a moral life. If I took ten minutes of my life to address all the gods that people have believed in I'd be pretty busy. Why does his god get to be the headline act on the god stage? What about all the other gods? He sounds like he never got past aisle one.

A lion eats other animals just like we do. Does a hunter feel shame for killing a deer for food? Of course not, that's ridiculous. At some point people will even eat other people to survive. I think this guy must be trying to address a bunch of teenagers or something because his arguments are pretty soft.

If you were to add all of the knowledge together that humans have amassed in their history on this planet; what percentage do you think that would be in relation to all possible knowledge?

If I were to postulate liberally, maybe 5%?

Is it possible that the existence of God(in whatever form) is within that other ~95% of possible knowledge?

That also means it is possible that also within that ~95% there is no existence of God as well.

But the possibility still remains would it not?

The concept of god is a man-made idea; it's a personification of deep human emotion which is made in order to ease our doubts and fears and to add understanding and order to a life largely devoid of it.

I am in awe of the cosmos, and I don't doubt that there's much we don't and will never understand about it.

But to throw that "unknown" into a box and make up a bunch of unfounded and baseless claims from it is basically how I see theistic religion. I can better understand the concepts of pantheism and deism, but I still feel that they're largely rooted in baseless claims which try to make sense of what we will never understand.

So in a nutshell, I feel like the ideas of god and even a "higher power" are flawed ideas which come from a flawed human perspective. And naturally, an assertion only holds weight if one has backing or evidence behind it. And neither one does to me, so I am a non-believer by default.

If you were given a probability that Terrence Jones will be a star at 50/50 (just like above), would you be able to make a conclusion? A logical person would say I don't know and will just wait and see. God or religion seems to be the only one that is excempted from this type of reasoning.

Everybody uses logic and reasoning to conclude all sorts of things during their daily lives but only religion or other supernatural claims gets a pass when it comes to this.

Is it any less flawed than believing this all came from nothing?

We can agree to disagree but how can we anyone reasonably explain that something came from nothing? The concept of the divine should be left vague because we really don't know, so it is better to live out of love, both for yourself, others and your surrounding environment (which in turn reflects back on you) and leave it at that.

Then it depends on the definition of God and other proofs to prove who God is.

But the possibility remains there may be a God, just like their remains a possibility that TJones may become a superstar.

You can provide all sorts of definition about a god and provide all sorts of proof, but if all of that still just adds up to 50% possibility, no conclusions can be made either way. The probability of the existence of god is no better than the possibility of fairies, ghosts, lockness, big foot and all the other unproven claims that has a 50% chance of being true.

Saying that something is 50% possible does not add any value to the claim that it is true.

    what an absolutely horrid comparison.

Tjones having a chance at being a superstar at least is evidenced with statistical and physical analysis. There is footage of every game he plays and that evidenced is being challenged by opposing defenders and opposing teams.

You can make a sound and logical conclusion in a certain amount of time backed up by evidence whether or not Tjones will be a superstar.

Tell me, what evidence do you have that there may be a god?

That belief is not necessarily the one I take. Nobody knows if anything existed prior to the big bang, and nobody claims to know. We do know that an event which occurred roughly 13.8 billion years ago sparked the chain of events leading to today. Does that mean that it was the starting point of everything? Not necessarily. I won't go any further on that tangent.

Needless to say, part of being a non-believer is coming to terms with not knowing everything.
We don't know, yes, but your personal idea of the divine is shaped by what you've been exposed to. Even the most open-minded/open-ended ideas of a higher power are based in ideas which have no backing. The concept of a god in itself is a big assertion to make.

And I agree with the end of that quote. At the end of the day, it's how you lead your life, and I understand that some lean on a belief to help them lead a life they can be proud of. I understand its functional purpose (though I will add that many don't use it constructively) in society. However, I don't agree with it in a philosophical sense.

Even though the yes vote is winning, im very happy with how many people voted no. As time goes on, more and more people will see the absurdity of god and religion.

I apologize for the comparison. TJones was used by someone else to ask me a question. That is why I used it.

From what I have seen you post, I have a good idea you won't like my evidence.

My evidence that there is a God is Jesus. I believe He is God.

If you don't accept my evidence that is ok. It doesn't need your acceptance.

To me it is impossible that this universe was created by nothing and for nothing. People love to think that everything happens for a reason but rather believe that their own existence came without a reason.

I truely believe in God, Allah has created the Universe and created humankind for purpose. Those who say ''if there is a God why is there so much pain, murders, children dying etc..'' don't understand that life is a test, it is not a kindergarden.

The human body alone is amazing and worth meditating our whole life.

Some really believe that the good and the bad will have the same faith after death. A man who raped women or killed will have the same faith after his death as the one who feed the poors and did good deeds his whole life? There will be justice at the Day of Judgement and prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad (peace be up on them) etc came to warn us. Think!

Within that 5% of all recorded knowledge is that God is...Jesus, Yahweh, Allah, Buddha to some Buddhists, Zeus, Odin, Osiris, Jupiter, etc...

How do you know for sure Jesus is the true God with 5%?

I can accept individual faith and even individual truth, but that's not mine because the way I think is that humans can not really know.

Didn't Krauss said something to the effect that millions of years from now, the future Scientists on this Earth would think that our social system is all there is and that is the whole universe and they would be completely wrong but correct due to the circumstances of that time. Pretty humble statement and I would think he himself realize what we know of the universe today could be completely wrong but completely correct to our time due to our circumstances at this time. Secondly, although the universe came from "nothing" is what he said, didn't he also said we have absolutely no idea where energy originate from? What I gather is that... Nothing here is really not nothing. It's something that we absolutely know nothing about yet.

Science and reason have taught us so much and one of the biggest thing it has said is we still know extremely little and that we may NEVER really know. In fact, there are scientists who I remember saying, we may never get to the true elementary element because we alter or even create it when we observe it. Until we know of an independent way to observe things, we may be stuck and there is no way to independently observe things (even a non-human / computer observing is affecting the thing it observe).

Yet how many people act upon faith and believe that it is a fact that Terrence Jones IS a superstar.

Now how many people believe it is a fact that the Bible is non-fiction?

It would be impossible to postulate a percentage as "all possible knowledge" would be an infinite amount of knowledge which humans are incapable of approaching. The percentage would be approaching 0%.

"I would like bad people to be punished after death" does not equal "There is evidence to suggest bad people are punished after death"

Yes I believe in God. Reasoning? Outside of Religious influences, I have my own, personal reasons. Some people may say that my reasons are in fact luck and coincidence, but if everything happens for a reason, than I have reason to believe that there is something bigger than I am coordinating these things.
