Been playing defiance and am already bored of the monotony. Too worn out from work to do anything but sit on my ass today. What game should I pick up? I'm thinking NBA 2k13 but a simplistic shooter would be fun. Unreal championship/ halo were my favorite games when I used to play games back in the day.
An older fps shooter that I really liked is Resistance: Fall of Man. Didn't play the other ones in the series, so I can't really comment on that. I know a lot of people also like Killzone 2. Mass effect 2/3 are awesome shooting games also. Mass effect is the longest of these if that matters.

Uncharted bored me to tears. I'm not buying Last of Us because it's basically the same sort of deal. Heavy Rain contained no real gameplay, although it was more interesting than Uncharted. Ni No Kuni was good. In general I don't like games with extremely linear stories that have little real gameplay. Clearly they appeal to some people, just not me. Go buy Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. They're probably cheap now. For a shooter, Borderlands or Borderlands 2.
On Amazon, Borderlands 2 is $25. Borderlands 1 GOTY Edition (includes all 4 DLC on-disc) is $23. Demon's Souls in $14 and Dark Souls is $15.
It's old and not exclusive, but if you want a shooter, did you ever play Vanquish? Truth be told I never got around to playing it (Gears of War burned me out on shooters), but I've heard nothing but good things about it. Other than that, I second the Borderlands suggestion. I actually enjoyed that one more than the 2nd one. The Ratchet and Clank games in general are relentlessly excellent, too... last one I played was Tools of Destruction. Also, these are very old, but if you never played Burnout Paradise or Condemned 2, you should.
Forgot about vanquish and borderlands. Those are awesome too. It's hard to find vanquish though unless you order it online. I need to get back to Demon's Souls (as soon as I finish Last of us )
