Just like it wouldn't make any logical sense to trade your starting PF's in the middle of the season for a rookie draft bust who's rarely played in the NBA...

And then to give that draft bust significant minutes w/ the game on the line, while better options are on the bench or in the D-League.

Well if Houston could do it, they would. that was from a Houston perspective I was offering.

Boston and the clippers, or the cavaliers would probably reject any Lin for Irving, CP3, Rondo deal straight up. However, Rondo can be a bit more interesting, Since the Rockets have Asik as an asset and maybe some draft picks to trade if Rondo become 'UPSET' with Boston management or if he does not play for Stevens.

Not really, Houston didn't even let Lin do his responsibility, which was to be the PG of the team. Harden is not a PG, but he was the PG of the team last year no doubt about it. I am very suspicious at that weird innefficient player management by McHale.

Absolutely right, Every player needs to earn their spot on the team. but that was not what I was arguing. I was just pointing out that Lin wasn't even allowed to get an opportunity to be the floor general, which he is designed to do since highschool days. Harden, TD, even Beverley do not posess the PG mentality quite like Lin.

If they trade Lin for a ridiculous talent like Irving, then do so. I'm all for it. That is a basketball move with no ulterior motives, Can not be criticized. Cleveland would reject that offer, but maybe Boston could put Rondo on the Trading block later this year. you never know.

This is where you are wrong. Lin shared PG duties. While Hardn did have the ball a lot it was hardly 100% of the time. Lins roll was diminished when Harden came on board but it wasn't erased. He still managed to be 17th in assists per 48. For someone sharing PG duties that's pretty damn good.

He got rotation minutes for a few games and that was it. And the net value of that trade we got back did indeed make sense for a young talent an older veteran that was a key piece down the stretch and in the playoffs. Garcia alone contributed more than Patterson and now is coming back at vet min, something PPat wouldn't be allowed to do.

The reality of the situation, though, is that things change. Lin was brought in to be the starting PG and one of the focal points of the team -- but then James Harden happened. And if you have those two guys on your team and you have to force one of them to change their game a bit, who is it going to be? Certainly not Harden. Lin can either learn to give the Rockets what they need to have the best possible team, or someone else will step into that starting PG spot and do it for him.

I know the LOFs don't want to hear this, but here's the truth: This is no longer about designing an offense that plays to Lin's strengths; it's about Lin adapting his talent to better serve Harden and Howard.

maybe you and I saw the games differently. I do agree that Harden was not the PG 100% of the time. But I do know Lin wasn't the main ball handler for a good percentage of the actual game. I would have preferred a 70-30 or 80-20 split for Lin and Harden ball handling responsibilities. I would have also lobbied for more on court Playing time during the 4th quarter for Lin as well.

The PT mintues of lin was a bit strange since a young kid like Lin could handle easily 35+ minues per game. I would like to see Lin burn more minutes per game as well.

If McHale handles the rotation differently and allows Lin to be more of a distributor and give him more playing time, I think the Rockets would be a more well oiled machine. Here are some fantasy stats i drew up in my mind if things go right.

    1. Lin = 15 PPG 9 AST 3 ST 37-38 MPG 45% FG 35%3P 5FTA
    2. Harden 26 PPG 4 AST 2 SPG 38 MPG 46%FG 34%3P 10 FTA
    3. Parsons 15 PPG 6 AST 1 SPG 35 MPG 50%FG 40%3P 3 FTA
    4. Asik 8 PPG 1.5 AST .5 SPG 30 MPG 55%FG 2BPG
    5 Howard 22 PPG 1.5 AST 1 SPG 38 MPG 60 %FG 2.5 BPG
    6 Beverley 6 PPG 2AST 1.5 SPG 25 MPG 42 %FG

This is what needs to happen IMO. Hopefully McHale changes his heart next season and give LIn more playing time and more definition at the PG position. If they trade Lin and Asik for Rondo I think they should do it

Lin accepts the truth, too, and it's not negative at all. Judging from his offseason training and gradual improvement over last season, he's learning how to adapt and fill his role. Harden is expected to follow suit next season with the addition of Howard. It doesn't mean the future is any less bright for him.

Well my opinion of Harden is that he is not exactly the best ball distributor like Lin is. So I don't see why you would allow Harden the majority of ball handling duties. Plenty of times Harden was trapped or confused when he made bad errant passes or tried to dribble through double or triple teams.

Yes, Harden is a beast no doubt. but my argument revolved around ball handling and distribution. I think Houston would be a dark horse team to win it all if Lin gets to distribute the ball to Harden, Parsons, Howard and Asik the way he can and knows how to. Harden can still be that mack truck or battering ram for many offensive plays that should revolve around Harden and Howard. Parsons is the versatile three that can spread the floor, rebound, pass and do a bit of everything. my two cents

I agree, that other things equal, Lin should get more burn and him playing well is nothing but good things for the team. The difference between you and I is whether or not the coaching staff is giving him a proper opportunity. I think he was given proper opportunity before absolutely stinking it up early. With redundant abilities with Harden and Beverly playing well, his room for error on the court shrank quite a bit.

Despite Lin fan's absolute rage at this, it actually helped him really work on his game and his shooting improved dramatically by season's end before getting into injury trouble. With a new season coming into play, he should get his fair shot. And if he doesn't perform I'm sure he'll get pulled in the first quarter again.

Holy cow, the devotion to every perceived slight some of these fans have is really sad. Lin, if anyone, should know the deal. Acquiring a FA of this magnitude is bound to cause some shuffling of talent. As awkward as it may be now, it'd be much more awkward to act like nothing's going to change only to have it change tomorrow.

Glad you got high hopes but wouldn't be optimistic about those lavish expectations.
