I think it's a polite way of saying he wasn't worth what he got, if they were that concerned about parsons, i'm not sure why they then engaged atlanta in regards to a s&t scenario after dwight agreed

I'm guessing that the Rockets just didn't want to pay that much for Josh Smith because they plan on re-signing Parsons soon and Smith isn't worth going that far into the luxury for.

If a guy like Love or Aldridge become available, I think we'd make that move.

    Morey is a calculated man.

He had a price set on Josh Smith. A price that woud make him moveable if and when necessary. It didn't work out.

Who is the guy who made the statement? Is he credible?

I still believe if Dwight said, 'Smith' then J-Smoove would be here. Thus, therefore, and so I wonder just what their desired future really is?

Maybe the motive was ACTUALLY first and foremost that they just simply didn't want to pay Josh Smith the kind of money that a team like Detroit was going to pay because he would be way overpaid and a bad asset.

Re-signing Parsons could just be a subplot.

If Morey gets a chance to sign a truly great player along with their core before Parsons re-ups in 2 years, I think he's going to do it.

At that point(assuming they haven't been traded), they will be at the tail end of Lin & Asik's contracts worth 16+ million in their final year. If the "other player" and Parsons are that good, you build around Howard, Harden, "other player", & Parsons with minimum & exception deals.

If you make some guesstimates & assumptions to what "other player" would be making and what you would guess Parsons might make with a high dollar contract, its very feasible that they could make this kind of acquisition and re-sign Parsons to a very lucratic contract, and still be under the luxury tax if not slightly over it.

The trick is going to be acquiring that player via trade in the next two years before Parsons re-ups. They wont be able to add a large salary via free agency anymore. I think its very do-able, and the Rockets will have a very, very nice trade package to offer a team as early as this trade deadline when there could be some great players available via trade.

Morey gave Scola an offer before he signed an offer sheet.

I still believe the Rockets want a third "proven" star on their roster. I think they would have taken Smith at the right price and he could have always been another asset to use to get the piece (LMA, Love, Bosh, Horford, etc) that Morey covets.

Smith is being overypayed by Morey's standards and wouldn't want that holding us back in any future moves. Morey also feels that a top 5 center on a friendly contract is worth more than a top 10 PF on an unfriendly contract, so he decided to wait and pounce on the move that he likes.

In regards to Parsons, he will likely command 7-10 mil a year on his next contract. He's still a low deal and is much better than his contract, but remember, 2nd rounders typically don't get multi-year deals as well as guaranteed contracts, so Morey definitely did him a favor as a rookie and Parson's in turn lived up to and exceeded his contract. I'm sure there is a nice relationship there and we'll take care of Chandler when the timing is right.

This line of thought is ridiculous. The Rockets had to S&T for Josh Smith. Which means that if he's getting Detroit money from us, then we had to send Asik + Jones/DMo to the Hawks. Which means we save ~$4mil in actual salary. If Morey truly believed Josh Smith is the answer, why in the world would he care about ~4mil? Even if that does push us to the luxury tax line, it's the difference between barely over and barely under.

If that's truly a move that would make this a championship team in Morey's mind, I'm certain he could get Les to sign off on it.
