What did you do on 7/5/13 when you heard about Dwight Howard's decision to sign with Houston? I was on clutchfan all day and that's how I found out about Howard's decision. I will never forget that day. That day probably is the best day in Rockets free agency history and also my life as Rockets fan, probably better than T-Mac trade in 2004. I was so jumping happy that day. I am very excited. I still can't believe it. It still doesn't feel real. How about you guys? How did you feel when you found out about his decision?
I live in Australia so it was early morning when I found out. I was up all night in twitter following it until about 4:30am and then when I woke up at 8:30 for work it was a done deal! I ran into my brothers room and woke him up hahaha, was a great feeling all morning until the whole 50-50 thing. It's an unreal feeling knowing Dwight's a rocket
I realize we have Rockets fans from all over the world, but the Rockets seem to have a rather larger following in Australia. Any particular reason? Just curious.
No idea. We don't even get NBA coverage, it's one game a week on ESPN (pay t.v) at best. Don't even think it was on T.V at all last season. I downloaded each game.
Oh & I was on CF refreshing every minute in the early hours of the morning until the USA today story broke as well as the panic with Warriors offloading there players before that. I never had any doubt though.
Coming from Sydney I don't feel like is true at all lol I personally only know one other Rockets fan and have come across very few...
IIRC, SmeggySmeg(the Original CF Aussie) once said that the Rockets Finals series were shown on Australian tv back in the day, which is why he is a fan. As for younger Aussies, I would assume from the increased coverage the NBA gets worldwide. It seems we have a lot of them here...I can think of a half dozen just off the top of my head.
I'm an Aussie and been following the NBA since Dr.J and the 76ers. Didn't follow it much due to a hectic work and family commitments in the 2000s. The first finals series I watched after that was Mavs vs. Heat a couple of years ago, then Linsanity happened and followed him to Houston. Most of my Australian basketball mates followed Linsanity here too. Don't know about the other Aussies on this board. My work takes me to Asia, especially Japan and China. I know some people here say Jeremy Lin is nothing compared to Kobe's Jersey sales or whatever but just anecdotally from reading the bulletin boards and meeting people, he's much bigger than many of you imagine. They published a manga magazine about Jeremy Lin in Japan early last season when he joined the Rockets. Being from Australia, I have no affiliations with cities in the US. I have always followed NBA players and teams that have inspired me. At the moment, Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rocket's organization inspire me and are my team.
as a followup as to other Aussies on the board, here are a couple links. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=172033 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=199457
For me i started following basketball the year Mcgrady went to the Rockets and i hate following bandwagon teams so i went for Houston. Stuck with them ever since and will never change. Basketball is my favorite sport now and has been for about 5 years. I'm the only rocket fan from my group of friends though haha, great time for me right now!
I suggest League Pass man, best thing i ever bought. Split it with a mate and watched ever rockets game this season. Worth the price IMO
This is the exact reason why I become a Rockets fan, while every other kid was running around in MJ singlets I fell in love with Houston. While there seems to be plenty of Rockets fans from Australia on here I am yet to meet one from Perth myself, well not one with a really keen interest.
Perthonian here! I read these forums everyday but I barely post (as you can probably see). Good to know there are more than Heat, Lakers and Bulls fans in Perth
Thanks for the responses, friends from down under. Now that we almost have a super team, we will be gunning for the title next year.
I wonder how many rocket fans actually live in Houston on clutchfans...I'm assuming its quite a bit but it seems its a lot of other states and countries as well
You also need to consider those of us raised in Houston who now live in other cities / countries (I was raised in SW Houston / Sugar Land / Mo City, but I now live in S. Florida). By the way my fandom goes back to 82-83, toward the end of Del Harris' tenure & beginning of Bill Fitch's.
