Every player possesses individual strengths and weaknesses, and every player casts up a unique set of field goal attempts. Some players get lots of shots in areas where they excel, and others experience the opposite — they take lots of shots in places where they are below-average NBA shooters. Here’s a look at the players that had the least efficient shooting performances by zone in 2012-13.

    .....

Speaking of above the break, Chandler Parsons went 35-for-121 (29 percent) along the right wing. That’s not very good. This was by far Parsons's most frequent shooting location beyond the arc, but it was also his least efficient. He performed much better at the top of the arc, where he shot 44 percent, and in the corners (just under 50 percent). The Rockets should consider adjusting where they get him looks; as a 3-point shooter his opportunities and his talents are not currently aligned.

That's a pretty phenomenal chart, if you elimate the wings, he is tops in the NBA in both 3p% and top 5 FG% while shooting a ton of threes, pretty spiffy, $12m and change coming if he starts defending again.

Chandler shouldn't shoot there... because that's James Harden's spot.

Unfortunately most of Parsons shots come from where he is weakest

Is this due to defenders being knowledgeable and giving Parsons his least efficient shot?

That's because harden is finding him in those spots. Lin needs to have the ball in his hands to fix this problem..

This is his full season chart. Looks like he still sucks at the right wing, left is improved...

That spot is his "we need a bucket NOW" spot....he tends to just jack up the three and many times he fades back on it. That's why the % is lower.

    Riddle me this basketball geniuses...

Did Parsons have a better shooting percentage from the corners because he took less shots and or did he have a worst shooting percentage from the other positions because he took more shoots...???

Do coaches instruct their players to pay more attention to Parsons when he's in the corner because that's probably the easiest spot on the court to make a three so he can't get as many looks from that spot...??? Or just show the shot chart showing if he was guarded or open on his three point shots missed or made. Because the charts I see don't contain that information.

Also... If you guys thought of this, do you actually think Morey or the coaching staff hasn't noticed this...???

Lol... Good thread though. Nice topic discussing. We need some game tape to really break it down. Those charts only tell part of the story.

If we took every single NBA player and erased their two worst zones, couldn't we say the same for their shooting percentages? Compounding the problem is these are his two most frequent shooting areas Outside of the lane.

Just means he doesn't need to shoot from there, I wasn't stating get rid of them and see what u have, more like, shoot more from the corner and key and less from there. Most players shot charts are not green everywhere and red in 2 spots...

If that's Chandler's worst %, that's not that bad. 0.87 points per possession is below average but not godawful.

    LOL @ Monta's 0.70 ppp on midrange J's.

Corner threes are closer to the basket, most wings shoot better there I think. He shot less at the top of the key, but not as well as corners.

He really did develop some arc on his shot by the end of the year too. At the beginning of the season he was a banging the snot off the front of the rim.

Morey and mchale obviously have the same info...so we need to improve getting him in his higher percentage spots...and opposing teams will continue funneling him to/giving open looks in his worst spots. Hopefully as he reaches his prime in two years, these numbers will look better... Meaning he's closer to 20ppg than 15...and doing it more efficiently.
