[ESPN] Dwight Waited on Kobe to Pass the Torch

I hope Kobe remains "the man" in LA for years and years and years.

 

I didn't realize 10 year old Kobe Bryant was with the team back when the Lakers won Magic and Kareem's last championship.

 

This is the biggest waste of time story I have possibly ever seen in my life. ESPN is just feeding us BS and on top of that, ensures that it's Broussard who hand delivers this **** story. I couldn't care less about this story coming from some butt-hurt laker's source. Dwight is a Rocket and we are one of the top 5 best teams in the league now. Lakers are now bottom feeders. Enjoy you pieces of ****!

 

this is the equivalent to a recent divorcee getting with her girls to trash the ex instead of assessing the real problems that they are old, fat and watch too many soaps.

 

Kobe would definitely rather shoot the torch than pass it.

 

That is a fire hazard, shooting the torch. Now his selfish play is putting us all in danger.

 

After listening to past interview with DH12, my take is that he is a very intelligent, thoughtful person. He probably figured out that the only way he was receiving the torch from Kobe was unawares and bent over. Kobe is only for Kobe, don't you know!

 

That's the plan.

Good move on Dwight of course. They are going to have to drag Kobe out kicking and screaming unless they just have the guts to tell him goodbye, it's time for him to go.

 

I think that quote is hillarious because Kareem understood the brilliance of Magic and took a step back as he aged to let Magic lead.

 

I feel like the core of this article and others like it are speculating as a result of DH's camp asking whether LA has considered amnestying Kobe.

I dont understand why the assumption by such a question has to be that DH doesnt want to play with Kobe or that he doesnt like Kobe. Fact is that between Dwight and Kobe, the team would be left with little to no cap flexibility to bring on more talent, and amnestying Kobe or at the least renegotiating his contract to something more consistent with his current level of play would be a must if he's making a decision based on what team he feels will be competitive for the immediate future.

Lakers are having a tough time accepting it, but Kobe's a declining star and though I expect him to play great this year and get good numbers, it will be great for his age and not enough to make the Lakers championship contenders. They need a strategy for transitioning to the post-Kobe phase and it seems like the team has not so much as considered that reality, making Dwights leaving a no-brainer.
