I haven't seen the Korean original in years but did they change up the story for this one? In the trailer Spoiler he sees his grown up daughter on TV. I thought in the original he thought she was either dead or doesn't know where she is but then he finds out at the end..It would suck if took that part out.
Spoiler Yeah, it looks like they're probably going to take out the incest part. Not sure if Americans can stomach that.
When I heard they were doing a Hollywood remake of this movie, I was sure it was going to suck. The fact that it's Spike Lee gives me the tiniest bit of hope that it might not be horrible, but there's no way it will be as good as the original.
Sam Jackson is actually a big fan of Asian cinema so I can see why he wanted to be in this movie. As for remakes, look remakes in Hollywood has been going on for a long ass time now, you just have to get used to it and just think of it as more people will go out and find the original on their behalf.
Maybe the trailer was meant to be misleading in that way. Spoiler I could see where the main bad guy hires a fake daughter actor to be interviewed on TV and to be kidnapped when he gets out so he has a reason to pursue her, with that other chick he meets and falls for (who is actually his real daughter). Seems like they also took out all the hypnotizing stuff from the original. I wouldn't mind if they went route
I agreed at first bc i saw IA b4 TD and thought it was just a scene for scene rip off and then he just threw in more deaths for shock. After a couple of more viewings of the Departed, i changed my mind.
That was my immediate thought. Spoiler I mean, I seriously can't see them completely taking the incest part out. It's pretty dang central to the whole freaking movie.
exactly what is going to happen. So predictable in the trailer if you've seen the original. That's all they could come up with.
Gah I'm having a hard time with this. I loved the original. Anyone reading this thread should see it ASAP if they haven't. Although Infernal Affairs was great, I thought Departed beat it by a notch. However, Infernal Affiars wasn't as popular imo as Oldboy hence why this remake irritates me.
It's my understanding.... Spoiler That Spike Lee is using the original magna as his source which did not contain the incest part. Incest portion was created for the original film.
Oh come on. You really think that's what he's doing after watching that trailer? He's copying everything. I hate when people who are clearly just copying movies claim that BS. Do you really think Spike Lee would even know about the original manga if the movie didn't exist?
I don't know and honestly don't care, I think it's a pointless remake regardless. Just passing along the info bud.
