Board has always been polarized. But it's the lack of any intelligent debate with people just shouting at each other. But yeah, it's worse now then ever.
Kinda sad that I pretending to be a right wing conservative, put up the best arguments on behalf of your side. But yeah, it was kinda fun - much more fun to have intelligent debate partners. Now, representing my true views, there's no one to debate. They either agree or I put up with right-wing robots who repeat Sean Hannity talking points. I probably should go into politics as a Republican. I'd probably do pretty well.
So I read the original post because it is a sticky. I thought the OP was very well thought out and stated. I have no clue what he/she was talking about, but the sense of it came across quite clearly. I skipped to the last page and what do I see, but someone (2 years later) stating that it is worse now than ever. Really? 2 years and it is still f'd up? Huh... I am guessing the OP is no longer here then as a participant. What a shame he/she was a well spoken articulate person.
True. But it's only a few select posters. They deny it, claim to be the "bigger person," or "control someone's thoughts," but they really have issues with minorities, and especially those that are successful. Whoever mentioned that it would be nice to eat breakfast with some of these clowns: Really? I think I would be even more disgusted to put a face with the uneducated, racially offensive and delusional comments of some. If it were about the Rockets, that would be a fun breakfast. However, the posters that troll the D&D aren't really Rockets fans. They use this forum as their stomping grounds to promote hate and propaganda. I'd eat a meal with DocRocket though.
Since I am one of the CF posters who sometimes has breakfast with fellow members, I would like to reply to you. I enjoy sitting down with people of different political bents than mine. Sometimes I concede some points. Sometimes they do. Sometimes no opinions are changed whatsoever. However, no eggs or coffee is tossed across the table because the people who show up are civil and civilized. The people who sneer at such exchanges generally cannot think on their feet. They need a computer to hide behind and use to find what their position and response should be, i.e., according to a party line. In short, these are people who cannot think creatively or for themselves. There are a number of posters with whom I would still like to break bread. Deckard and Major are in Austin and I don't get up that way very often anymore. However, when enough people have time on a Sunday morning, I postpone church and find a median location. I can always be reached at thumbs@email.com.
Disagree. It's a great way to promote good will and thereby tone down the D&D rhetoric. Besides, it would be great fun to see Codman's face when he discovers I'm a minority (Hispanic) who has had a modicum of success.
What do you mean tone it down? I've read this is the only place to get Clutch credit. "Screw you guys i'm going home."
Well said. Unfortunately, my significant other's position with the state requires that I keep my identity under wraps, or I wouldn't be able to post half of what I can post now in Hangout and D&D. I agree with Codman that there are a few "trolls" who easily cause the majority of the problems down here. Seems to be something we just have to live with, though. They (and they know who they are, as it is deliberate) do what they do, and are unchecked by the powers that be, who have their hands full most of the time with the Basketball forums, which makes perfect sense. If folks would just put on ignore those who bother them the most, a lot of that problem would be solved, in my humble opinion. Just a thought.
