lol yao wasnt wayyyy better like you said. Although great offensively, yao (for being his height) was getting only 9 boards a game. Dwights defense and rebounding imo outweighted yao's advantage in free throws and offensive skillset. Also, the point of scoring is to put the ball in the basket in an efficient manner. Although yao had more moves, dwight scored more and did it efficiently.

All im saying is yes, dwight should not be considered with the all times yet, but for this era, and if you account for offfense and defence, dwight is thebest

He isn't over hyped. He is the best current center in the age of worthless centers. I think people actually undersell him when they suggest that MGasol is a better C. However, compared to any of the all-time great centers.... well he just doesn't compare.

No one is saying that Howard is an all-time great center. It's almost consensus that he's not. But he is the best the in the game today, for sure. No matter what you say, one hting is for sure. He is a master defender and a master rebounder. His defensive prowess can actually change the defensive output of an entire team, just himself. He might be one of the best rim protectors to ever play the game. Rebounding, we all know he's a capable fo a 20-rebound night during any give game. No here's my main prblem with your offense argument. Dude average 20 ppg for majority of his career of of like 12 shots per game. He shoots like 58%. What else do you really need? Of course a post game would make him so much better and he could average 26+ ppg, but the fact of the matter is D12 is still a pretty decent offensive player no matter what. The league center position sucks, but there are a lot of elite big man defenders and Dwight seems to do all right against them. It's also funny how you would tkae Gasol over D12, but Gasol doesn't even average 15 ppg and doesn't even shoot 50% from the field. Gasol isn't nearly as athletic as Howard making him less effective on defense and he can't even rebound 8 boards a game. You're a joke.

Yao was just entering his prime when he was hurt. Further, Yao was getting between 10-11 rebounds the last 4 years of his career. Defensively Yao was under rated, he was just such a large presence in the post. All you have to do is look at the Rockets defensive statistics prior to Yao, and then after he retired. He did have problems against small centers, and could be mismatched, but so can Dwight.

Personally I would rather have a healthy Yao, but Howard has been without question the best center in the NBA since Yao left.

Howard isn't over rated, he isn't held in the same company as Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq, Wilt and others. A few years ago, people were discussing the possibility, because at 24 Howard appeared to be about to become the only dominant center in the NBA.... it didn't happen.

Howard may still have his basketball ahead of him, and the difference between him and the next best center in the NBA is pretty severe. He will make a huge difference when on the floor. He is a better defender than Asik and we will have a dominant defensive center on the floor for all 48 minutes. Further, offensively, Howard will be huge off the PNR.

I've had this conversation with friends, but who would you rather build a franchise with: Zo or DH? To me they're very similar in regards to limited offense moves, yet still effective. Great defenders (man and weak-side help), although Mourning played against tougher competition.

Personally, I'd give the edge to Mourning, however his durability was an issue throughout his career, but if he played in today's era, he would easily dominate the league despite not even being top 5 center during his own era.

Can't help but laugh out loud and clutchfans hypocrisy. What's even the point of debating around here if you change your mind about a player simply because he's on your favorite team now.

I remember during the cowboys vs 49ers rivalries when Deion was on SF, the cowboys fans said he's overrated and couldn't tackle, then he came to Dallas and was the best cornerback ever and a God. Same thing here with Dwight.

He's nowhere near the levels of Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, Kareem..

    but

    He doesn't need to be..

Because he's playing against Horford, Lozep and Camby, etc

My opinion of how good he is hasn't changed. But I dislike him less then I did now. Nothing more nothing less.

You seriously underrate Yao. Consider the context before looking at the head-to-head stats.

Yeah, DH is definitely overated, don't even worth 20 million a year, at best, 15 million, can't argue he is a defensive beast, but has no offense at all, a one legged Yao would beat his ass off

Who says Howard is on the level of those guys?

    When is Bynum healthy?

Marc Gasol? The guy that gives you 14 & 8? I like Gasol, but he's below Howard.

That is what everyone says, so I'm not sure how he is overrated.
