Morrow, Ellington just went off the market.Nick Young is interesting choice but I prefer Brewer if we could get him..
1) The Rockets don't like giving out player options unless they are very sure it will not be picked up (if it is pick up then you have a bad contract and dead weight on the roster/cap). 2) The Rockets don't have anything but the vet min and the room exception. Tell me which worthwhile players are lining up to take that. He has not been signed yet, and you think he will take the $2.6 million? After that playoff performance?
I doubt we can get Young or Henderson. Daye would be great for the room exception. P.J. Tucker would be meh for the vet min. He hustles like crazy, good defender, and plays with heart. Forget Neal. Why offer him anything and do the Spurs a favor? They will just match.
You and the rest of the people saying that no one is taking pay cuts or lining up to play for the Rocekts. Most of these guys have been getting player options and the Rockets do not give those out. I'm not sure you know what a player option is. Wait until next free agency when there are some actual good role players and we have our full MLE. Then see who Morey signs.
Don't patronise me! You are saying Garcia has not been signed yet and you are saying he likely won't accept 2.6 million. You must have not been around much these last few days..
We need more shooting. Ellington or Morrow would have been excellent, but ultimately they can see that their minutes would be extremely limited here. We need to deal Asik for Anderson + either a backup C or a 3rd string SG/SF. We then need to sign either a backup C or a 3rd string SG/SF. I'm more and more comfortable with both T Jones and D Mo. Add Anderson to that rotation and we're set. I'm also comfortable with Greg Smith as backup C - he got some great experience last season, he'll have another productive summer and training camp, plus he will get to go against Dwight in practice. There's plenty of time to make these moves, but I really want the roster to be stable at least a couple of weeks before training camp. I don't want anyone on the roster distracted by possible trades - IMO it's important to go into training camp with the roster locked in and thinking about nothing but a ring. It also gives McHale time to work on our offensive and defensive system before training camp. Let's go Morey!! The hard part is done, we just need to get over the finish line.
We didn't use the midlevel exception on him so we can still add another shooter, technically that is..
Morey will never do what you suggest. it's not his M.O.. He sees Asik as his best chip in the game to get that third star. He is not going to give it up easily. Certainly not on a pf who might not be as good as what we have already. Right now all he is doing is signing low risk hi reward players,e.g. Casspi, Covington and Reggie Williams for free. If they work out great, if not no big loss. Covington could be better than Anderson after it is all said and done and DMo certainly has that possibility if he can hit at least 33%. I think he can. But what you see right now is Morey scavenging the remaining players looking for the best available of the unwanted that might fit here and he came up with Reggie Williams. Reggie shat 42% from behind the arc and supposedly improved his D. Perhaps he was just misuesed in one of the worst offenses in the league and Morey believes his numbers will go back up to those Warrior days. As for the use of the room exception. I have no idea what Morey will do with that but I like Antawn Jamison. And if again he is someone who would be free.
He only got paid $1,146,337 last year, but his performance in the playoffs will surely drive up his price. Would using the room on any player at all put us over the cap and into the tax?
What I take from the Rockets strategy is they value Top end Contracts because their value is known and the player ceiling limits their value and Minimum value because their value is unknown and is by definition at the minimum
