One of the best players out of this draft. Agree or disagree? Seriously, this guy has some of Dirk's moves mastered.
I agree. not sure that means a all-star or anything. It was pretty clear last season at gonzaga, he has skills as a big...not many bigs can say that. Too bad Dallas traded him lulz.
Could the Rockets have traded up to draft this guy? He would fit perfectly in our system ... reminds me of D-Mo but a better shooter.
I dunno if they could have, but I would have loved to have him on the Rockets...he should have been drafted earlier.
I really liked him during the draft when i saw his highlights. I even admitted dallas made a good pick.
He could be anywhere from a formidable post presence to a scoring punch off the bench. Either way he'll be successful.
A friend of mine said Olynyk's game reminds him of Scola. I laughed in his face and said that Olynyk is, at best, a Spencer Hawes/Channging Frye. But I'll be damned if he didn't look smooth in a Scola-ish way when he was scoring in these summer league games. Summer league, I know, but still.
If he becomes one of the best players of this draft, is it because he's good or is it because the draft was really weak this year?
Utah ran him through a massive shooting drill during his workout here and I guess he made 63/100 three's which was 2nd most out of anyone Utah worked out. Olynyk said he didn't shoot more than 5 three's in any other workout. Utah was set to take him at #14 until Danny Ainge called them and told them he was trading up for him. After that call Utah went to plan B which was trading for Burke.
I think he will be good... however I also think it important to note that the summer league does a much better job of telling you who WON'T make it as an nba player than who will be good. There's been plenty of players who dominated summer league that were so so NBAers at best.
