Dem free throws. Just get to ~60% like he was in 2011 and I'll be ok.

I love the fact that Howard will be working with Dream and McHale, and I hope he works on all the things in the poll (good list by the way, made choosing one tough), but if Dwight develops something as simple as the little Kevin Willis hook shot, he could be the best player in the NBA.

    Ideally..

Improving his health, make sure his back and body is ready for the season.

Free throws, prepare to stay cool in pressure moments, i'm sure McHale and Hakeem can help with that too.

Learning the system, where to be, how to play with Harden, Lin and Parsons.

Then work on post moves with McHale and Hakeem.

Would be the perfect off season.

Dwight was shooting 80% of his FTs in practice as a Laker. It's all mental with him. That being said I hope he improves the facets of his game in this order: Post Moves/PnR/Free Throws/Less Turnovers.

This. If anything, the one thing we want to avoid is inter-locker room love drama.

in practice, the first few shots are "practice shots"
in game, u dont have that kind of luxury, its the percentage of the "practice shots" that matters.

    Jimmy. Hats.

    Srsly, free throws.

They're the difference down by 1 or up by 6 late in the game. Knock 'em down early!

    Defense....Defense....Defense.......Defense.

I don't believe that Howard will every be a true go to post player. He has played almost 800 games in the NBA and has never taken over 14-15 shots a game.

However, in Orlando 2-3 years ago, Howard was a far better defender than he has been the last two seasons. The Rockets need to get Howard motivated to lead the defense, close the paint and hustle. If he does that the Rockets will be in a good spot.

Howard will be an efficient offensive player regardless. He can get 20 points a game off dunks and blow defensive assignments. If I want to see any improvement from Howard on offense it is from the free throw line and passing.

Really with Howard, from my perspective it comes down to effort and health. We can tell howard we will feature him on offense, but it wont happen. Harden is going to get the most shots and I wouldn't be surprised if Parsons does as well.

    1. Health (Asik could help)
    2. FT (Yao could help)
    3. Run the floor (Lin could help)

Personally, I feel like what Howard really needs to do is start playing more of an old-man's game. Rely less on pure strength and more finesse. Try to overall change the way he plays offense. One that involves not having to use so much energy.

As much I want the Orlando Howard, I feel he's starting to get up there in "basketball age." If he wants to have another max contract after this one, he really needs to care more for his body by changing the way he plays. Similar to how Kobe and Lebron made their adjustments, similar to Hakeem when he changed from being a brute force guy to the ultimate finesse player. I want Howard to make that change if possible.

Your basic premise is wrong. You can focus on more than one thing at once, they are not mutually exclusive It is also important when talking about these things to put it in a context of a time frame.

If you're talking about short term priorities before the start of the season...

    1) Getting in game shape.
    2) Learning the sets. Learning the defense.
    3) Free Throws.
    4) Refining your post moves.
    5) Getting comfortable playing with your team mates. Letting them know where and how you like the ball. Off PNRs, do you want the lob from Lin, bounce pass from Harden. How to play with Asik (positioning).
