Pacers? wtf is that, they have West and Hibbert, small market teams don't sign people to discounts and then merc them off. Much like Parsons is for us, Chicago would rather go into free agency in 2 years time with cap space than trade Butler, the rest of their stuff (Boozer? pls), Golden State might be willing to part with Barnes or Thompson but I highly doubt it, whereas Jones and Dmo are highly expendable.
I will gut my roster of half its future talent to upgrade from an all star pf to an all star pf, derp derp derp.
For a star player, those guys would be traded in a heart beat. And I didn't say anything about Hibbert.
Ersan and Anderson make sense from a fit standpoint, but adding them kills our last opportunity to add a significant free agent via cap space, ie when Asik/Lin come off the books in two summers and Love/Adridge/Rondo are all on the market. If we can move Lin for a Granger or Deng, we should do it, but I would keep Asik and keep that cap space open for 2015.
It's about fit. And who said anything about gutting a roster. Take off your blinders. If you think teams are just going to cough up their good players for Lin and Asik and not consider offers from other teams you are pretty dense. But go ahead believing Houston is the only possible destination for these guys. I guess we've got it all sewn up and it's pretty much semantics at this point. I expect Aldridge or Love to be Rockets...Or maybe Green and Rondo...Derp Derp De..uhh...
Two things: 1. What do we do when we come up against a team with a stretch 4? Asik and Howard will both get burned if they have to defend someone out at the 3 point line and having two rim protectors at the same time could get pretty redundant. 2. Offensively, what stops every single team from just helping off one post and doubling whichever post has the ball? Neither can hit an outside shot to help the spacing so they essentially have to beat two guys everytime they want to score down low. Same goes for the pick and roll. The big man not involved in the P&R can't hit a jumper so his defender is just going to stand under the basket and wait for the roller to come his way and shut it down.
If this off-season has taught us anything, it's that teams can move players to create space. If you get Ersan or Anderson and want to move them to create space in a year or so, you can do it...Even if you have to trade them for less value than you'd ideally like...
I hate to see Asik go....having them both is an awesome luxury for the rockets. At the same time cant blame him really for wanting and deserving to be a starter. He was an absolute game changer for the rockets the entire season. I would also hate to see T.Jones leave, because I'd almost rather have Tjones than trade for anyone else. LMA is a beast, but why not stick with our development guys?
fit more or less...He is a ball dominant pick and roll specialist...exactly what harden is...harden is just better.
Rondo is more ball dominant than Lin is. If you think Lin is that good, why not have him come off the bench to spark with the second unit.
If a trade is absolutely necessary, then perhaps we should offer him to Charlotte for Cody Zeller; a #1 pick (protected through #7) in 2014, top 5 protected in 2015, top 3 protected in 2016 and unprotected in 2017; and Charlotte's top #2 pick in 2014. Asik gives them a low double-double defensive center to go with Biyombo, MKG, Ben Gordon and Kemba Walker -- not a bad lineup although they would have no depth (but that would be true even without a trade). Tyler would give the Rockets a really promising PF/C to complement Howard and would provide McHale with lots of mismatches utilizing D-Mo and T-Jo at PF or Smith at C. Also, because Charlotte has the cap space to take in Omer's salary, I think -- but I'm not sure -- the trade would generate a trade exception for the Rockets. There's one more positive to be considered -- Asik is not likely to hurt us come playoff time.
It's unbelievable to me that people think it would be smart to team Rondo with Harden and Howard. He is the absolute worst fit top level guard I can think of.
That's a waste of an asset. Plus the pick is probably protected, and you don't know how high that lottery pick will be.
Ersan and Anderson make sense if we could get one of them for Lin's contract and not take back dead salary. Ilyasova spreading the floor with Chandler for Dwight and Harden. Are you kidding me? He'd shoot about 47% from 3 and his trade value would go through the roof. You could very easily move him and Asik to create cap space for an outright signing....but better yet..him and Asik would probably combine for great trade value for an incoming superstar either in a sign-and-trade or a pre-emptive trade to a superstar hitting the free agent market. So, I'm still down with getting Ilyasova..big time...if we can get him for Lin and we don't have to take back any long term money other than him. However, it kinds looks like Milwaukee has their sights set on Teague. They keep trying to get a S&T done with ATL using Jennings for Teague. We'll see if that happens. Realistically....Lin is better than both of those guys and will be on a shorter term deal. However, Jennings for Teague doesn't cost Milwaukee Ilyasova. We shall see.
