Who were they competing against for his services?

Any why has Bynum not signed this already?

Yeah but what are the chances that Varejao and Bynum stay healthy all season.

I don't get it. Regular joes slave their asses off for a paycheque. Andrew Bynum injures his feet bowling and doesn't play for an entire season then gets offered $24 million.

Bynum should take the money and run.

If regular joes when healthy can be the 2nd best center in the NBA, then Andrew Bynum(or any other NBA player) would be making quite a bit less money.

Why would anyone pay this guy a dime without having him work out for you first? Especially knowing he missed the entire season last year!!!!

I know his agent said he wouldn't work out for any teams, but that should be a HUGE red flag that this guy still isn't healthy.

There's gambles but any GM that would pay him a dollar let alone twelve MILLION dollars needs to have his head examined.

This is a very smart move. Low risk for them with a pretty high reward, doesn't harm cap flexibility for LeBron.

Between this, Jarret Jack, Earl Clark and their young guys developing they should make the playoffs next year. Pretty pathetic if they don't.

You just listed 5 PFs. Varejao is a hybrid 4/5 with just as many injury issues as Bynum. If Bynum is healthy, he is still a top 5 Center, that is how weak the C position is in the NBA right now. If you can get even 65 games out of Bynum at the quality level he is capable of playing when healthy, it is a great deal.

I know everyone likes to bag on Bynum, and deservedly so because he has been a total wank as far as a teammate and a worthless trade option, but I think if he is healthy and motivated, he can provide a great 5 for the Cavs, or most teams honestly. This is his chance to resurrect his career and make himself into something other than a running joke as one of the biggest pansies and jokes in NBA history. I hope for the Cavs' sake and the NBA as a whole that Bynum makes himself into something other than a cautionary tale of wasted talent and overinflated ego.

Agree with everything you said except for the first sentence.
I don't believe Tyler Zeller is a center. Especially a 7ft one on a team with no 7footers.

The article says the Cavs are aiming for a 2nd yr team option. I hate Bynum. I say there's a 100% chance he will not be a competent NBA player ever again, but I'll be conservative and put it at 90%.

So as a Cavs fan I hate it, but purely trying to be logical, it's not bad. I can't believe I'll be rooting for this guy...if it goes through.

Oh yeah it also says his camp wants a large 1 yr contract so he'll have freedom afterwards. I bet...one more year to milk millions for doing nothing. Rinse, repeat. Simply amazing.

Unfortunately I think he's soooooo checked out of anything relating to basketball and he doesn't give a sh**. The furthest he'll go is play on Xbox. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even own a basketball. Hope I'm wrong.

What we need is a PG that can shoot and defend

Asik and Lin for Dragic and Scola/Gortat, Vazquez and Ryan Anderson, Brandon Jennings.
