What are some realistic trade scenarios where we move Asik, but don't get a Power Forward in return? Instead we move for assets. Maybe the thought should be this year we work on chemistry between Harden and Howard (and Parsons, etc.) and see how far we can go with the team as is, which should be pretty far. Then next year (or even at the mid-season trade deadline in February) we take the assets that we get from Asik being moved this year while his value is high and make a move for that final big piece next year when some better PFs/players might become available. Thoughts and specific ideas? Love these creative scenarios so try your best Morey impression on this one. Could have maybe been in the Random Trade Ideas thread, but since it's pretty scenario specific I went Shea and made a new thread out of it. Have at it.
amir johnson and a pick would be ok. his ability to block shots, rebound, and steal the ball will help turn defense into fast break points. he can also play next to dwight since he has a solid jump shot out to the top of the key. he's strong, fast, athletic and 26 years old. use the room exception to get a legit center off the bench like JO or dalembert so that we aren't small when dwight comes out. we could even keep the small ball starting lineup and go big when needed.
I could think of a few, but, here's the deal. We are here and forever, over the cap, thus, getting rid of very good players is opposite of the goal. We will use the MLE next year, and will not have Max Cap in 2015. It's time to keep the right complimentary players, and stop worrying about who makes how much, and what assetts we could get.
my guess is that asik is going to get moved during the allstar break after some wannabe contender realizes they need a big man.
Asik+Greg Smith and 2014 first rounder for Michael Kidd Gilchrist and Brendan Haywood. Howard/Haywood/ Jones/Motie/Parsons Parsons/Garcia/Casspi Harden/MKG Lin/Pat This gives us a guy that can be our lockdown defender on the perimeter and is still a player with a good bit of potential.
Asik and Lin to Toronto Rudy Gay to Minnesota Kevin Love and JJ Barea to Houston This makes so much sense for all parties involved.
Except for the part where Minnesota gives up Kevin Love and Barea to only get an overpaid Rudy Gay in return.
If you can't get a starting PF I'd be happy with a Sixth man SG and a first rounder. Asik is such a bargain. GM's know that.
If we can't get a very good PF, I'd rather keep Asik. This is a championship contender now, no time for hoping future draft picks pan out. Let's win NOW.
Portland. With the lost of JJ hickson. They need a C we need PF. Top 5 C for top 5 PF. Makes asik happy to be starter. Houston trades: Asik, TJones, 14' 1st, 14' 2nd. Rights to Foreign player(s) Houston receives: LMA, barton, cash. Lin Harden Parsons Aldridge Howard Lilliard Matthews Batum T Jones Asik Similar trade could be had for Kevin Love.
Dude. Just hold on to him and wait for a team to get desperate, ie injured. And then put your ski mask on and rob that team.
The patient way is to watch them play for 35 games and then pounce on some desperate team panicking at the trade deadline.
