This is a more compelling image of the TWIN TOWERS. Asik is truly a giant, he definitely looks much thicker and bigger than Dwight. I think they have a 2 inch difference in height without shoes. Dwight is 6'9" w/o and we can put Omer at 6'11". Love to have both giants on your side.
For Twin Towers to work, one of them needs to be able to both shoot jumpers and create spacing from wherever he is. While OT could not do this, Hakeem could. Neither Asik and Howard can shoot and as far as I have seen, neither can create space either.
Howard when healthy definitely can. I think Asik might be too slow and flat footed to be comfortable guarding stretch 4's all the way to the perimeter.
Initially, they both could only need to learn the mid range bank shot. That's a learnable skill and a good place to start on providing them one way to space on the court. But I still believe the twin towers can dominate even without long range ability, simply because I'm betting that at any given play, one of them will have a mismatch worth exploiting.
ESPN NBA Rumors tweeted this earlier: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Could Wizards make a play for Asik? Could Odom return to Lakers? Cavs in play for Bynum? Jennings - Teague swap? <a href="http://t.co/ZgvqNkdV31">http://t.co/ZgvqNkdV31</a></p>— ESPN (@NBARumorCentral) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBARumorCentral/statuses/354246711541112832">July 8, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> I haven't seen any articles about Asik and the Wizards... has anyone else?
Well I'm dumb. I have Insider, it looks like I just didn't go back far enough through their rumors pages. Really it's just speculation by a Washington writer... Not something we'd go for I don't think... Here's the quote:
I think his proposal is Ariza and a pick for Asik in order to cover Nene's injury prone self. Which I do not think is a good deal for us at all. I'd rather have Asik playing behind Dwight so we have 48 minutes of elite paint defense every game.
I never saw Asik as the type to formally demand a trade. He appeared to be the ultimate team player that never really spoke. Is there any truth to this trade demand? or is this another example of the media blowing this up for a story. I just don't understand how Asik would turn his back at this opportunity to be on a very good team, oh, and let me not forget the hefty salary he's banking as well. Go Rockets!
Salary wise it would have to just be Okafor for Asik but I'm not doing that unless we get a first round pick. Hell, I'd rather not do it at all unless they take Lin too.
If Bogut gets injured, what do you guys think about trading him for Thompson or Barnes, and Green or Speights. The warriors look like they are all on this season and Bogut always gets injured. I think that is the only way we can get a good deal for him. A teams starting center gets injured, trade deadline, and said team is still in the playoffs.
Then I'd rather the trade be with a team in the Eastern conference. I don't want Asik going to a team stacked with talent that could beat us in a 7 game series.
i would be down with okafor.. but my priority is to keep asik. morey and mchale need to console that dude.. he will be a part of something special.
