I thought Melo loved NYC and hated Mr. Pringles? This makes no sense. I could be wrong on this but isn't taxes worse in LA compared to NY? When is ESPN going to stop stirring the pot after the Dwight fiasco?
A negative + a negative is still negative. It's only when you subtract a negative that an end result can be positive.
So, the Lakers lose out on Duh-wight (Chris Broussard and, to be fair, JVG pronunciation) and ESPN needs to keep the hope stoked on their bread-and-butter team. I respected Stephen A. Smith a little when he tore into the Lakers on Friday night but seems everyone who works for ESPN must toe the producers' line: Keep it Lakers, keep it Knicks, keep it Star Players.
My God the Lakers are in such denial right now. A 31 year old Carmelo Anthony and a 36 year old Kobe Bryant are not anywhere close to a contending team. No star in his prime is going to go to LA to get bossed around by Kobe and wait on them to reload. The sooner they start the rebuild, the better. Stop grasping at straws, it's making them look pathetic.
Stephen A is one of the best reporters out there. He only says things like this when he has some intel behind him and yes he's one of the few with actual sources and actual ties to NBA players.
I can believe Melo will think about opting out, can't believe he'd go to the Lakers though. Especially if Kobe is still there, just wouldn't work.
One thing that is pretty clear about superstars is that they look to move on when their not winning and the team they reside on doesnt have the elements in place to get better. Another point is sometimes perception supersedes fact. This is to say that if Melo perceives the grass is greener somewhere else, whether the facts support that perception or not, you have to give some credence to the idea of him moving. LAL has the perception is being a winning city with a winning tradition. This is hard to argue in the Dr. Buss era. But the early returns for this continuing to be the case in the Jim Buss era clearly show chinks in that armor. By the end of the 2013/14 season, those chinks might be huge breaches and the perception needle may move accordingly. Whether Melo will indeed move is anyone's guess. But LAL being the FA magnet of the past is in serious jeopardy. And the huge FA class of 2014 may very well not come to save the Lakers as those from that city expect.
I don't see Lebron or Melo going to LA. I think there is a chance of Melo going though him and Kobe are good friends. There is no chance Lebron ends up there though.
