I'm thinking about dumping my current internet service and going with Clear's Faster Home for maybe 6 months. My goal is to do this so I can get the new customer deals from Comcast 6 months from now if I need to bundle up with TV and Internet to get the dang Rockets.

Anyone use Clear? Thoughts on it? I don't do much streaming at home (will probably do none in August as probably canceling my Prime subscription) but I do download movies on DTV's on Demand.

Clear stopped expanding as they ran out of funds a long long time ago. They still have towers up and running but not sure if they are being maintained. In some areas, you'll get good service but in a lot of areas, it is extremely spotty and has terrible indoor penetration due to the frequency Clear runs off of (2.5ghz) . Clear is esentially the original Spring 4G Wimax.

Have you tried speaking with retention at Comcast? A lot of times if you get the right rep and mention a competitors name (don't just say i want to switch, say you want to go with at&t) and they'll offer you something along those lines

If you can get a good signal, clear is good. If you can't then it sucks. I put my modem in my window and secured it with velcro tape and I had a strong signal and consistent 5mb down and 2mb up, that's the highest I got which is decent, but not great.

I've done that and Comcast gives me a really good rate right now. BUT, if I need to add one tv in October to get the Rox, I need to be a new customer. I can get my current internet and one room for the current price of my internet.

I was going to switch to Uverse but they want 199 set up fee and a one year contract!

That's ridiculous, they must not be looking for new customers.

Hang up, call back and get a rep who gives a damn. There are always deals to be had.
