This is interesting because you really have to wonder what Morey saw in Casspi to actually chase him since last season. Would you happen to know how well he played with Francisco Garcia in Sacramento? As of now our bench production will be determined by how well Beverley, Garcia and Casspi play together. Perhaps Morey sees a statistical advantage in this lineup?

First of all, that wasn't all that long. I would also say that most of us didn't know all the info you gave us. So, thanks for the update! We need info like that.

Now I have a question. How old do you have to be to know who The "great Broderick Crawford" is, let alone want to watch one of his movies or tv shows?

I'm going to write a letter to Obama about all the nasty things you said about my boy Omri.

Why was it that when we had VanGundy we could fill the roster with decent defenders, but couldn't find a decent scoring option. Now, we got shooters from halfway around the world, but can't find anyone to play defense?

If the OP is correct, Casspi's problems seem more mental than physical. Basically, if he plays within himself, he can be a quality role player. And quite frankly, that's all Morey wants out of these players. Work hard on D, space the floor, run the breaks, etc. The little stuff.

But in essence, these are the type of players you really want to gamble on as a team. And if he doesn't work out? He'll never get playing time and be gone next season.

I saw all of his games with the Kings in his rookie season. I think he played 72 games and I watched them all. I actually really rooted for him when he entered the league. I'm really unpatriotic when it comes to my country but as a kid growing up in the late 80's early 90's, watching epic games at 4 in the morning on tv, having an israeli in the NBA seemed totally fictional. almost scifi like. It's kinda hard to explain.
and then when Casspi entered I was really excited to see him have an amazing first half of the season. he was the most athletic he ever was that season, and with a ferocious will to prove he belongs.
Then came the 2nd half of the season. The claim was that he hit the rookie wall. But I think that teams just knew who he was now, and so he didn't have have the element of surprise at his disposal. ever since that season things just went downhill .

Well, I think it's fair to say that none of us were expecting the second coming of MJ when we signed this guy to the vet min, with the second year being a team option.

To be sure, Casspi's performance in Cleveland was less than spectacular, but NBA players need good supporting environments to succeed, and that's especially true for a young (not to mention international) player. Facing adversity, young players often sulk, lose confidence, and develop bad habits. It happens.

In Houston we have a fast paced, open court offense in which shooting is emphasized. All of these should suit Casspi's strengths.

Casspi agreed to signing with the Rockets because he felt like we were a good fit with his skillset, and Morey targeted him for the exact same reason. Best case scenario, he turns out to be a valuable contributor off the bench. Worse case scenario, we lose about 900k and a roster spot.

Not the worst thing in the world right?

My years of internet experience has taught me that strangers on the internet always give credible and accurate information.

Morey must have seen something to sign Casspi, though I'm not sure what it is seeing the dude gets worse every year.

I may not agree wth all the take this guy has on Casspi, but I do agree with him that Broderick Crawford was an outstanding actor. He won an Academy Award for a great film, All the King's Men, and was a terrific actor on the Broadway stage, as well as film, and had a long standing role as Chief Dan Matthews on Highway Patrol. And yeah, I'm old enough to remember him when these things were fresh. :)-

I watched the Cavs a bit last year before Casspi became glued to the bench (I wanted to see what the big deal was with Irving. I'm not as impressed as most, to be honest). I noticed that Casspi was pretty good at hitting corner 3s and actually seemed to try a lot harder on defense and the boards than most of his teammates. I'm not sure if that says more about him or everyone else on the Cavs.

I'm not expecting a lot, but I'm willing to give him a chance as a hustle guy/spot-up shooter on a good team. We'll see.

Typical Morey reclamation project. Minimal salary, guy has shown some flash of competence and is still young enough to maybe salvage his career. If it doesn't work, nothing is lost. If he turns into a Delfino/Garcia type, great.

Morey really doesn't have to see a whole lot in a guy just to give him minimal salary.

So, will someone fill me in on why we signed a player who can't dribble, can't shoot, can't defend, and is overconfident?

I know it's fun to talk about these guys, especially when the people who follow him show up to give us insight but tbh, Casspi probably won't make too much of an impact.

If he plays really well, he might get some minutes... If he doesn't then it's not loss because we've got other guys fighting to get on the court. It's a vet minimum contract that fills a roster spot... It has some upside but if it doesn't pan out, it won't really hurt us.

This is where I'm at. OP does provide strengths and weaknesses though. As mentioned earlier, most likely he has talents that Rockets value, use more than Cavs, kings and Morey is willing to gamble an inactive roster spot an min contract on. No big risk if he doesn't work.

    Thanks and agree.

Also, I know a lot of Israelis through my work, and most don't toss around colloquial English like this guy. So you have to wonder... "nah" -- couldn't possibly be what I'm thinking. :)

Welcome, OP, but that was a total hatchet job on Casspi, and you're basing it on his play on which teams and what reports? Or were you involved with the teams?

PS -- I hated the signing, by the way, as anyone can see in the original thread.

I just want the arena PA to play Hava Nagila whenever Casspi makes a shot.

People on this board regularly refer to LOHs and LOFs, which are Lin Only Haters and Lin Only Fans. This Israeli guy who just joined the board and has 90 less posts than you was making an inside joke.

I got a strong OHMSS vibe from the OP but I'm willing to wait and see.
