I think there is a couple underdog free agents that really could help our team this season. Here is a list of them. Leonardo Barbosa - He has declined lately but I think he would be a great substantiation for the leaving Delfino. I really like his game and style and actually has similar personality to Delfino in ways. Jermaine O'Neal - Once great center to possibly not finding a team. Now we have Asik and Howard that's kind of to many centers but he would be a great grab. He can still ball and just his size in general really clogs up the lanes. Tracy Mcgrady - I know, I know and I know. T-Mac has been here and broke our hearts and pretty much sucks now. In a way that's kind of false. In China he did great and got back in shape. Obviously the competition isnt as harsh there but if we signed someone like Garcie what makes T-Mac worse then garcie. They are about the same age and T-Mac can hit 3's about the same and is way more athletic. I would love to grab T-Mac as a 10-15 min guy. He would be perfect he can play 3 different positions PG, SG and SF. He would be a great expendable player. Corey Maggette - I actually feel bad for this guy. He always seems to be on the worst teams in basketball and at one point in his career he was a really good scorer. He barley played last season but I see him as a solid scoring option. For once maybe being on a non crappy he team he may shine even with his age consideration.
I assume Asik is gone, in that case we really do need a cheap vet big that can play decent defense and hit free throws. This will be imperative in close game situations where we can't put Howard in for free throw reasons or he has fouled out. I love G Smith but we really can't afford to have no defense from the 5 spot every time Howard goes out like we did last year with Asik. I don't know if that's O'neal or someone else.
I hate saying this because you preempted it a little, but Garcia is a better defender and shooter than T-Mac at this point. T-Mac couldn't score in garbage time with the Spurs in the playoffs. Although T-Mac last shot 46% from the 3 in 2011-12, that was due to his only taking 33 shots. His career 3pt shooting is 33%. Garcia is a career 36% shooter from the 3 and shot 39% last year. There is not much comparison. I am with your idea if you want T-Mac for Aaron Brooks type purposes, ala to get the fans up when there is nothing going on. However, I don't think we need nostalgia when we have the kind of roster we will have this year.
Jason Collins! Worth it just to stop other teams from signing him as a Howard stopper. Plus, it'll pull in a whole new demographic. Once Houston wins the championship the GLBT community will root for the Rockets until the end of time.
Hell we didn't get Delfino until after the Olympics. So there are players and you can never have enough guys. If Miami didn't have both Battier and Miller the Spurs win the title.
play makers arent really needed when you have James Harden and Lin...And besides i love the fact the ball doesnt stick to any one player... Barbosa would be a nice addition/safety valve imo.
http://basketball.asia-basket.com/player/Von_Wafer/Xinjiang_Flying_Tigers/61176 He is apparently shooting 46% from the 3 in China... Is the Chinese 3 point line similar to the WNBA?
Please don't forget Ray Allen. Without him Miami would have been beaten, even with the addition of Battier and Miller.
