Virtually anyone else, I'd say make them work off the bench. But with Asik, he has just earned so much of our respect I feel bad. I know others are fine with keeping him, but personally I can't even justify playing him next to Dwight for one minute. My concern though is that there are no good deals on the table. Maybe the organization is waiting for the right package. Also, players' value is traditionally lowest right after they're reported to have made a trade request. Maybe we wait for his value to pick back up, and convince teams that we're prepared to NOT deal him if a suitable offer doesn't come in.
that seems like the worst fit in the nba: totally selfish, inefficient jump-shooting, ball hog SG coached by team-oriented, assignment-based, tough-talking coach. Wait didnt they just resign manu and still have green? Their interest can't be real.
morey will wait for other teams to start salivating to get asik... then he will pull the trigger. could even be by next years trade deadline. the roster isn't full-on championship caliber yet... and morey will be smart to make the most of any asik trade. i also wouldn't mind keeping him to backup dwight. omer is the man.
You know there is a such thing as "fit" and playing a specific role, right? And ginobli? The guy that was considering retirement and looked like he was on his last leg?
I would love to some how get Mirotic to be our starting 4 next season. I really like his potential and he could really spread the floor. I think Asik could be the center piece of a deal bringing him here.
pretty sure they weren't throwing him(manu) a charitable 7 million per year with his recent contract. What specific role do you think monta ellis can play besides horrible shooter?
Also, their supposed interest in monta came after they re signed manu. How much they paid him is not relevant as everyone saw how ineffective he was. Maybe they believe he will be better if healthy this season... Kinda like how they might believe monta could help them off the bench.
monta declined an 11million/yr option from the bucks. you think r.c. buford is gonna throw that kinda change at a horrible shooter in a bench role?
yeah but that doesn't make any sense as a reply so I just assumed you meant something else. "what will monta's role be in san an?" "same role he'd play in san an." I mean that's just a meaningless statement.
If the Rockets do manage on working with an Asik, Howard combo...I really think the Rockets should have Mchale work with Asik on playing with his back towards the basket. Howard should work with Hakeem on being a more fluid player. Asik: Needs to learn how to shoot, and work on finishing layups and plays at the rim. He missed soooooo many point blank layups... Asik is such a hard worker, and that is why I really feel bad for the guy...but we got Dwight Howard, he has to put aside his personal ego/vision for himself as an player and think of how to embrace the challenge of playing next to someone like a Dwight. He will never ever get an opportunity like what he has now. The Rockets were one of the highest scoring teams in the league last year. But instead of doing that, the Rockets this year(with Asik and Howard) could be the best rebounding team in the league. Dwight: Needs to work on foot work. Olajuwon's greatest asset was his ability to waltz on the post. His foot work for a man his size is better than a majority of guards in this game. For every move, he had a counter. But for Dwight, his first goal should be how to use his feet. He is already very explosive as an athlete. But he has to go back to learning like a rookie. After he starts developing foot work, he should really work on using his arms to space himself in the post without fouling or picking up cheap offensive fouls. Overall, I know that i just wont be possible to have both Dwight and Asik on the floor at the same time, but if Asik is willing to just focus on being a center, and if Dwight focuses on being more of a PF, maybe this experiment can work. Regardless, the Rockets arent giving Asik away just yet. They will wait to see how things play out.
Howard & Asik Morey can hold on to Asik, until he gets the right trade package; till then they (Howard & Asik) can compete for playing time.
Haha don't think they will compete for playing time. Pretty sure our new superstar center will get plenty of minutes.
Not sure i buy the story but I would imagine that asik may be a bit bummed by the chance of decreased playing time. With that being said, because moving asik is a logical move, I'd imagine people are jumping on that rumor wheel early. It does seem like it's just a matter of time. But I don't think there is any rush. I have no problem seeing how it plays out in the short run. Having a rebounding and defensive presence at the center position for an entire game is a nice luxury.
Regardless of Asik's wishes, Morey will not trade him cheap. Not when he is by far our biggest trade chip. Not when our young trio(Smith/DMo/Jones) are not yet capable to be major contributors. His agent can make all the noise he want, but this season is way too important to the Rockets to screw up just to satisfy one non-Harden/Howard player. Once the Rockets make it known that they will not sell Asik for a discount, teams will actually start to make serious offers. THAT is when the Rockets will actually trade Asik.
The Twin Towers are only going to be for experimental minutes, maybe at the start of each half. The Lakers had a similar problem last season with D12 and Gasol. They thought Gasol could shoot the jumper and play the 4, but this didn't quite work. It wasn't until later in the season that they moved Gasol into the post and Dwight to the perimeter to set picks that the systems started working better and the Lakers went on a 28-12 run to take 7th spot from the Rockets. I think if we try the twin towers experiment, offense will be motion and best serve with Dwight doing PNR from the perimeter. He is much better than Asik at catching and with a running start at the basket is the best finisher in the game. Dwight moving to his original 4 position on offense and using his quickness is better than him being an undersized 5 when we got a seven footer in Asik to play the 5. Anyways, I really hope Asik stays at least until the deadline to give the twin towers experiment a try albeit in limited minutes. Very excited for this season to start.
