Go after Dirk in a 3 team trade - If Dallas were smart they'd take this and run

Houston trades: Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Terrence Jones, 2014 1st, 2014 2nd (NYK), 2016 1st
Houston receives: Dirk Nowitzki, Peyton Siva

    Dallas trades: Dirk Nowitzki
Dallas receives: Omer Asik, Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight, 2014 1st

    Detroit trades: Brandon Knight
    Detroit receives: Jeremy Lin, 2014 2nd, 2016 1st

Good start to a rebuild for Dallas with young players and picks. The Rockets get Dirk to fill the PF position for 2013 and if all goes well he can sign an extension for cheap after this season. Detroit gets rid of a player who doesn't fit the roster and gets a playmaking point guard to fill the lineup as well as picks.

sounds realistic with a few tweaks. They just got Bennett, and he is not a SF, he will need to play PF, and they need a Cener since Varejao is injury-prone.

Thompson is actually quite impressive, he can be a solid 15/8 guy in a year or two.

I think Portland says no, and possibly Boston. Any way to bump up what they are getting. Detroit might toss a pick in if they are getting rondo. Does this work in the trade machine.

I think it's a good framework in theory.

He's got a bad back. Also I'm sure he's part of Boston's plan.

They already have a point guard. They aren't going to want to pay a backup 8 mil

Not sure if the Rockets can still get x1.5 in salary back in a trade but if we can and if Boston is truly rebuilding then why not an Asik,Lin,and either Dmo/TJones plus 1st for Rondo, Jeff Green and Courtney Lee

Just scouring through the lineups from the rest of the league, realistically to trade Asik: Orlando, Portland, Minnesota, and maybe Sacramento are options. For me personally i would send Asik to a good situation. He just seems to be a nice dude, and would probably fit well with Orlando. The issue is what would Orlando be willing to part with? What would Asik be able to net from them?

    In terms of Forwards/Centers???
    1. Big Baby
    2. Harkless
    3. Al Harington
    4. Nicholson
    5. Vucevic
    6. Harris

Vucevic isnt going anywhere(he has inside and outside game and is a terrific rebounding machine). Putting Asik and Vucevic together with Nelson, Oladipo, and Harkless might be a really nice starting lineup.

For the Rockets, I dont know about Big Baby(although he is a decent player) but I would love Nicholson. He would fit well with Howard. He can shoot and has range.

    Houston:Asik
Orlando: Big Baby plus pick/ or Nicholson plus pick

Even though that would be a sweet trade, dallas would NEVER let go of dirk. thats like LA letting go of Kobe.

    Lin and TJones for:

    Ilyasova and Udoh

    Why?

To set up the next move.

There is the possibility that one of 4 premier power forwards is going to be on the trade market at the deadline.

    1. Kevin Love - probably won't be on the market this soon but possibly after the season. Watch for whether or not Minnesota re-signs Pek or whether they let him walk or possibly sign-and-trade him somewhere for a cheaper option at the 5. If they let him walk or sign-and-trade him for cheap and things go sour this year in Minny....Love could be non-committal and go on the trade market. Asik plus a PF (one of Ilyasova/Dmo/Tjones) plus picks for Love.

    2. Chris Bosh - if Miami struggles next year and they either don't bring Chris Andersen or they bring him back and he sucks and they look like they're slipping behind Indiana and Chiicago....there could be a trade here that "rockets" both Houston and Miami into the Finals. Asik and one of our PFs(Ilyasova or whoever is left of DMo/TJones) plus possibly that dead money Gooden or Udoh for .... Chris Bosh. Yeah Chris Bosh. He's be great as our 3rd fiddle to Harden and Dwight.

    3. Melo - He rambling around with Kobe. There's no doubt in my mind that Kobe is recruiting him already for next season. If the Knicks sense Melo is going to walk on them....same package Asik/PF/Gooden or Udoh plus picks for Udoh.

    4. LaMarcus - same story...

In my opinion...if we are going to get a significant star/superstar upgrade to this team it has to come at the 4 spot. Why? Several reasons...one of them being the superstar PGs are gone.....CP3 is committed to the Clippers and DWill ain't leaving Brooklyn. Nobody else really fits well. Rondo can't shoot. Rose ain't going anywhere. There are no other superstar PGs to be had. Not to mention what we need from a PG is defense and a great spot-up shooter to space the floor.

Next up..small forward. Sorry but Parsons ain't going anywhere. He is becoming the tried and true Rocket. Only way we move him is if he wants to go and that is only if we get a deal for him that we like.

So...odds are overwhelming that if we upgrade one of these spots it's gonna be the 4 spot.....and possibly the 3-spot. Of course with a guy like Melo, him and Parsons can trade spots anyways.

So, in my humble opinion....a trade of Lin is all about setting up the next possible move. If we can move Lin for an Ilyasova/RyanAnderson/JeffGreen type power forward and some expiring salary...that may be what we need for the next move.

Or...it might simply be the move that puts us over the top. I could make a pretty good argument for a big man rotation of Dwight/Asik/Ilyasova with Parsons and Garcia picking up the rest of the front court minutes. Get another shooter to supplement Bev/Canaan (Gibson or Mo Williams at the minimum) at the 1 and another shooter (Anderson/Morrow/Kennedy/whoever) to back up Harden at the 2 .... all that being good enough to go to the Finals.

Trading Lin is about setting up the next move.

    Hell no.

To be fair, this is a reasonable trade proposal but I would not want any part of losing an elite C, a capable PG who has shown the capacity to dominate games, and a buffet of pieces for a 35 year old Dirk.

We would need to hope Dirk doesn't decline and stays healthy and also find another combo-guard that can run an offense. No, Beverley cannot run an offense. Harden isn't quite prime Kobe and Dwight isn't prime Shaq. Contrary to what others like to believe, we need more than just 3 & D from the PG position.

I know a lot of you guys want to convert Asik into a veteran we can use right now for a position of need (example: Anderson from N. Orleans.)... but I think we should consider moving him for plain assets, even if those assets aren't immediately usable.

    Example:
    Rockets / Trailblazers

Rockets receive: Meyers Leonard and a 2014 NBA Draft pick(limited protection) or multiple future draft picks (2015 and beyond)

    Trailblazers receive: Omer Asik

I think by doing this it gives us more flexibility for future moves, since draft picks are more widely valued.

Myers Leonard is not an asset. He's just another pedestrian big, career back-up. Now that pick could be something or could be nothing. It's a lottery ticket. As such the odds are against you.

In my opinion, you do what you are wanting to do with Jeremy Lin. Move him for assets...even if it comes with a bad contract. I'm suggesting Ilyasova and Udoh for Lin and one of our young bigs, something like that. That way when the time comes to make the big trade for the next star/superstar, you use Asik and the assets you got from the Lin trade.

I definitely agree, but more so, I think the Rockets would never put Asik in their same conference if they did decide to trade him away for assets...Asik to Portland would make LMA, Lilliard a excellent core. Morey isnt looking to make other teams better especially when our window is now!

Players like Ersan would make sense, but the Bucks arent taking another Center in return.
I suggested looking to the Orlando Magic to see if someone like a Nicholson could be had. Asik, with Vucevic, Harkless, Oladipo and Nelson is a very nice team.

How about Lin and Tjones (or possibly Greg Smith if we can keep him on the roster while signing Dwight) for Danny Granger??

How about the same pair for Luol Deng?

I believe Granger or Deng is Morey's primary trade target with Jeremy Lin.

Maybe someone has already proposed, but combine the Pelican's Anderson rumors and Love/LMA potential.

    Option #1
Houston trades: Asik, Lin, TJones, future pick
    Houston receives: Love

    TWovles trade: Love, Derrick Williams
TWovles receive: Ryan Anderson, Aminu, future Pelicans draft pick, Lin

Pelicans trade: Ryan Anderson, Aminu, future pick
Pelicans receive: Asik, Derrick Williams, future picks

    or some combination thereof.

    Option #2
Similar to above, but with Trailblazers instead of TWovles, targeting LMA. Maybe Pelicans take on Batum's ridiculous contract...

Asik, Lin, and D-Mo to the Clippers
Jordan Crawford, Eric Bledsoe, and T.Jones to the Pacers
Granger and DeAndre Jordan to the Rockets

Sign a PG with the room exception (I'm a fan of Jeremy Pargo if he will come to the Rox for that $)

    Rockets roster:

    PBev/Pargo (or vice versa)
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/Garcia
    Granger/Jordan
    Howard/Jordan

^ I know Clips fans have been expressing an interest in DeAndre for Asik to improve their D. Lin would actually be a good fit behind CP3 in their pick and roll heavy, PG-dominant system. DeAndre is not as good as Asik and is on a bad contract, but I would take him on as a backup big man IF we were getting Granger out of the deal.

Pacers should have some interest. They need to upgrade their guard play especially if they do agree to move Danny Granger. Bledsoe + Crawford would be a nice improvement for them.

I'm not totally sure if this would work under cap rules, though. It would be close. But, imagine a big three with Harden/Dwight/Granger.
