Nothing strange about it. Anderson has done this **** before. He ran into an opponent who wasn't scared. Weidman also dominated him on the ground. edit...I just rewatched that fight. Weidman won that fight. Anderson may have got a little careless, but Weidman beat him. No doubt about it in my mind.
Hats off to the new MW Champ but really Silva was goofing off and being very cocky. But then again, it's MMA and anything can happen. Congrats also to Mark Muñoz for being back. My final reaction:
Reminded me of when Overeem ****ed around with Bigfoot and got knocked out for it. Maybe AS is so used to fighting slow strikers like Bonnar, Griffin, Okami, Chael etc. that he totally looked past Weidman. He shouldn't have but he did and he got caught. Simple as that.
He's gotten spectacular highlight reel wins by "being cocky" aka lowering defenses to lure your opponent and make them miss, look foolish, and getting into their head while countering on their mistakes.. which had up to this point only added to his mystique and legacy. It has to work both ways. He employed the same strategy and obviously it didn't work out this time.
I see no need for a rematch anytime soon. Silva was Ko'ed its not like he got screwed over by the judges. Plus beyond time for him to move up to 205lbs. Furthermore once GSP gets run over the "Big Rig" it sets up the super fight the fans still would want to see.
I'd rather watch Anderson Silva vs. Cung Le Since Silva lost the title, I want to see this fight happen sooner than later.
If I were Dana White, I'd be pissed at the post fight interview. Taking nothing away from Weidman, not only did Silva goof off during the fight exposing himself, he was disinterested in fighting for the belt in the future. I'd consider cutting his ass with another performance like last night. You can be a cocky prick when you win. When you lose, don't let the door hit you bum.
Someone on mixedmartialarts.com found this video https://vines.s3.amazonaws.com/r/vi...p4?versionId=Bd44LmvR8pf.IVqBesO1NKFYs.IFxLd8 "That disrespectful piece of ****"
First off, you don't cut one of the best fighters in the world just because he done goofed. Second, he has the right to do what he wants in the ring, seeing as how his last non-DQ loss was back on 2004. And it wasn't like he was cocky after the match, either.
Last night's loss was the perfect set-up for Silva's next two fights. Silva/Weidman rematch where Silva destroys Weidman (I feel like that is a given) leads to a newly focused, hungry Silva taking on Jon Jones to solidify his "best ever" reputation. Of course, Jones will murder him but at least we all get to see the fight.
its funny how Dana all these fighters were picking an unknown like Weidman to upset Silva, its like they were getting us ready. And look at this video from Dana White below <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/DrN_J7wpkoI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Its all about money for the UFC, right now they are struggling big time, and they needed this. Because for whatever reason GSP refused to fight Silva, and Silva didnt wanna fight Jones. So they needed to intrest in the UFC, or challengers for Silva Nick Diaz called it, selling wolf tickets
I'm not a big follower of UFC, but I thought it was more a tactic to get your opponent to open himself up by taking the bait. Silva had gotten away with it for the longest time. Sooner or later someone was going to catch him. You'll see it in boxing, the thing is, the gloves usually come back up after rolling or dodging the first punch or two. Silva loves to leave his hands down way too much. Again, not a big UFC person/follower, but that's what I saw.
If Silva wanted to lose, he would've let himself get heel hooked by Weidman in the first round rather than get knocked out cold in embarrassing fashion. You're in denial.
