Morey has until the 2015 trade deadline to seek the highest return for Asik. He's not going to trade him now if he doesn't get the best value in return. With the right package we could get a really nice player in return, or a potential high draft pick (ala the Lowry trade) to deal for someone.
George Karl was the least of Denver's Problems. He got the most any one could get out of that roster and then some. Even Morey gave him props on a regular basis.
This adage doesn't apply to basketball, or are you saying Miami is clearly defined by Rashard Lewis and Juwon Howard? I would say a lot of other things but DieHardRocket already said them. Now is not the time to get rid of Asik, keep him on the squad.
How does that have anything to do with Karl? He's not the guy who gave Mcgee 10M a year. In fact the guy who did that won executive of the year and got pirated to another team for even bigger money.
Asik Makes 5 mil this year, even if you take his avg of 8.3 mil this is not crippling, especially since the rockets are not over the cap.
Jesus Christ can you not read? The guy said McGee coming off of the bench was a non issue. There were reports that the FO wanted McGee to start. Karl and the FO never saw eye to eye. What in the world does your response have anything to do with anything?
Alright did I say Karl was the problem? Apparently none of you read the reports on why he is no longer coaching in Denver.
Asik is better then Gortat, as he has had a pretty successful year starting even when no one was really trying to feed him the ball.
excellent post... Unless we can get love or Aldridge in exchange for asik+others, I think Morey will keep asik for now... Maybe 4 more months, maybe 2 more years.... But I definitely think they want to see what they have with a howard/asik combo...
I think McHale/Morey see soon-to-be-realized potential in Motiejunas and/or Jones. If the potential is not realized by the trade deadline, expect Asik to be moved for a PF but until then, those guys will get their shot along with a heavy dose of Parsons playing some PF. Dont forget that Garcia's play in the playoffs will allow him to log more minutes at SF freeing up Parsons to slide up to the 4 spot for stretches as McHale adjusts during the games.
Gortat got paid backup money. He barely played unless Howard was injured. Doing the same with Asik is a luxury and a huge misallocation of resources.
Bingo ! I agree specially with D12 still getting it together from his injury . For all of his analytical stats I believe Dmorey's thinking is basic , Can I flip David Anderson for a better deal than Asik . Honestly I don't see David Anderson bringing in the haul that Asik could bring. Specially when Dmorey hasn't even seen them play together. If Asik is moved it'll be around February and perhaps by then there might be a circumstance that could arise that we get a real PF star. Patience is virtue here ,we cant go the Orlando rout and do moves just to make moves
Before he was a free agent, Gortat made it clear he was unwilling to be Dwight's backup and asked the Magic not to match the offer sheet should a team made one. He wasn't happy. And if the report for Asik is true, well, he got that one going for him.
Excellent. This is so spot on for me. I think there was genuine interest in Josh Smith but he wasn't worth 14-15m meaning we had to give up Asik + Asik could be early favorite for 6th man of the year honors if he accepts his role. I think they can work out a way to play him close to 30 min. with some twin tower time in there.
Trading Asik for nothing less than an elite PF (Aldridge/Love) would be a severe disappointment. I want a full 48 minutes of elite center in the game at all times. We used to dominate teams while he was on the floor and have a drop off with him off it. Can you imagine having an upgraded player in Dwight while having Omer around the rest of the time? Beastly. I don't care he averages 8.3 million for cap purposes. It's absolutely worth it for our style of play. The one overpaid here is JLin, whom I really like but PGs of his caliber are not hard to find. Centers of Asik's calibers are very hard to find.
