i would say Terence Jones, if it were up to Dmo or TJ...i know the coaches will try to put parsons at 4 or even omri casspi
All baes on last year: Jones clearly, D-Mo did ok as a starter for a short period, but then went back to his over hyped, always out of place, scared little puppy play. He looked soft, and Jones at least played like a man. Those back-to-back games vs. Kings were an indication of what Jones can do a nightly basis. He can block shots like crazy, is a good athlete, can jump high, is not afraid, can shoot threes though he has to improve. Let them duke it out, both have great potential. I also like TJ personality better, D-Mo was all talk and did not back it up.
great thread...hard to say...both still so young...if i have to choose, id say jones has a better career, but wouldnt be surprised either way...either way its a great problem to have, especially since both of them offer different things, our bench was a problem last year, but if both of these guys pan out, our bench could become a strength
The idea that we need a stretch 4 who can shoot threes, totally lost on me. I don't think we need floor spacing when he's going to get doubled. We need a 4 who can drive and crash the boards to assist Dwight, help Dwight get out on the break, and to help our guards get out on the break. We are likely to once again be one of the worst offensive rebounding teams due to spreading the floor, so having a guy who can fill that space defensively, and occasionally grab an offensive board on the double, or take a pass and make a layup, much more important. We'll have plenty of guys on the arc. We don't need another.
He will also have to make a mid-range jumper from time to time. Because Howard will draw the double team a lot and Harden/Lin will break their man down. You are right on the money, dont need a 3 point shooting PF, but if he can hit it from time to time lol wont hurt us at all.
the beautiful thing about having Howard and Asik is that you can fit either power forward and it will always be a good fit because you have that defensive anchor and rebounder in the middle
To me both are untouchable this year until we see who fits the best next to D12. I do like how deep all these different scenarios make our team.
I would much rather see TJones. Better D, better athlete and he has a jumper. He just has to show improvement from his first year, as MMorris did. Motie is stiff, no D and would be wasted out there if D12 is in the post and Motie is standing on the 3pt line. He would be better on the 2nd unit where he could be in the post. Either that or Motie and Asik need to be flipped into a starting 4.
Hard to say without a good look at DMo. This is likely to play out in camp. But based on the maturation I'm seeing with Jones, he looks like a strong candidate. Needs to play a lot this offseason. What I am sure about is that if we are keeping Asik, and still need to find money to sign Dwight, We should be looking to trade Greg Smith for similar value as we got or Morris (high 2nd rounder ).
I think Tjones deserves a shot the more I think about it, the more I want to keep Asik. you never know, if Dwight gets in foul trouble, or lord forbid hurt we will have that 7 ft presence at all times in the paint. Asik is going to be a huge part of this team. We need to understand that. I think Morey is finished with big moves. and im glad he is. we don't want to mess up what we had last year. that was great chemistry. and a good balance... we got Dwight. now theres no need to blow it all up. give dmo and jones a half season to prove it. if it doesn't work we can acquire a veteran pf at the deadline. and don't forget about greg smith. hes a good piece also. he was our starting 4 when we beat OKC those two games.
wish i would have caught the summer league game. Did anyone? I saw them interviewing TJones on the post game showing a couple highlights. I have reserved optimism that TJones can be that 4 next to Howard.
Jones picked up where he left off last year 24 pts/12 rebounds. Posted up, shot from range, even ran the floor a couple of times in transition. Played solid D as well. This guy is a player. Still needs to quicken his release.
Why is it "lost" on you. Dwight played his best years when he was surrounded by shooters with a stretch PF in Rashard Lewis. you replicate that team as much as you can, the thing that would put us over the top is that we have a James Harden for teams to contend with. Find the closest thing that you can to a Rashard Lewis at PF, and this team will be downright DEADLY.
You guys should look into the Nba summer league deal. All 6 games for 14 dollars; a little over ( $2 ) a game. And it's on demand! Go Rockets!
D-Mo needs to put on weight (lean muscle and ease on those thick-shakes he's been drinking) and try to play C. Imo D-Mo doesn't look cut-out to make it in the NBA. I was really high on him but he was prolific at being poor last season. Nimble footed 7'0 with advanced post-moves relative to his age should never be written off though, but he's got the qualities of a pseudo-star and none of a role-player, so I'm not sure if he'll ever find a place, at least not on a championship roster. Terrence Jones however, damn that kid is crazy electrifying.
