Thats what I'm thinking. We know Morey doesnt like the player options, so there had to be something to it with Garcia. Unlike Omri Casspi who got the actual vet min lowballs, a team option next year at vet min lols (A $5 Mil early bird would be more than Chandler Parsons ENTIRE Rockets contract!) If the Rockets willingly let Chandler Parsons go into restricted free agency after next year in a "good faith" move, that'd be a significant amount of money added onto the 2015 salary. Then it might be time to re-up other Rockets players And for that, its unlikely that both Lin + Asik stay past 1 more season. Still it looks like Rockets are going into Lux Tax Land whether they want to or not.
Very admirable of him to sign for the veterans minimum. I'm so excited about this season. I wont be able to see when the season starts, but I can't wait to have all the games tivo'd and fast forward through all the days and commercial breaks! Congrats everyone!
Morey doesn't like player options, but it's not an absolute ban for him. There is just a cost to it and you'd only pay that cost when you get something in return. He would give it to a player for turning down higher offers to come to the Rockets and he would give it if it is needed to sign a max players. Garcia is the case of the former. Trevor Ariza is another guy who got a player option in his contract when he turned down bigger $ to come to Houston. Dwight Howard, I bet, will get a player option, too.
I like your optimism. Ray Allen had one championship and Finals appearances to show off before going to Miami.
I love everything about this signing. Love the player and he fills a major need as the backup wing. Ouur bench as presently constituted C Asik PF D-Mo SF Casspi SG Garcia PG Beverly Assuming it's a stonger, wiser D-Mo that's a great 2nd unit IMO. Probably more moves to come but I'd be happy with this.
