I think if he can recapture his form from earlier in his career, he could be a great option next to Dwight. I think about it this way: I would love Ryan Anderson next to Howard, and Casspi has a pretty good chance of possibly bouncing back and becoming that kind of player.

At vet minimum price, it's totally worth the risk. In Cleveland there was no post threat, and many 3pt shooters tend to struggle in that environment.

Very worth it, and we still have two young PF's both of whom appeared to be close to developing reliable 3pt shots late last season.

My guess is that - as one of the reports cited - NOH were actually expecting Asik and MORE for Anderson. J Smoove in Detroit. Millsap in Atlanta. Landry to the Kings. Best to go to war with what we have while strategically placing some reinforcements on the roster. This way we hold on to Asik until a great deal comes along worthy of his value.

Houston is the team for Casspi - running game and open shots! and a good coach!

For all you guys hating: Casspi as a lot of potential - you can see it in his rookie yaer. There was a lot of buzz around him.

Since then he had bad luck - stupid coaches and misfiting the style of play. the outcome was lack of confidence and a lot of bench.

Lets hope - Israelis and Rockets fans (or both) - Casspi will be good.

Hey guys, another new "COF" in here.

I am an Israeli who has been following Casspi in the past 4 years, more closely when he was in Sacramento than when he was in Cleveland (partially because there was not much to follow when he was in Cleveland, as he barely played).
I watched nearly all of the Kings games in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 so I feel like I can contribute a bit to this thread.
I do like Casspi and want him to succeed, so I might not be entirely objective, but I'll try to.

First of all - Casspi is a SF. I've seen some people suggesting he can play PF, and I really doubt that. In Europe he can definitely play PF, but PF players in the NBA are much bigger and stronger so he can't really deal with them defensively. He may be able to play 4 in some situations, for example when the opponent's 4 on the floor is not as strong as most 4. But overall he is definitely a SF.

Defence - Casspi's defence is so-so. He is not a bad defender, but he doesn't excel at it either. His lateral running is not the best, and he sometimes get lost in screens. It seems like he doesn't always knows his role on defence.
On the bright side - he is athletic, even in NBA standards, and very energetic, which helps him reciprocate for his defensive downsides. He is definitely a good rebounder (of course, relative to his position), even at the offensive side. He is pretty decent at getting steals, though it sometimes may seem like he is "cheating" when going for a steal - so when he goes for a steal and fails it usually makes a "hole" in the defence of his team.

Offence - On his rookie year Casspi showed a very nice variety of offensive moves. He showed he can drive to the basket and also that he could jump shot pretty well, and of course that he could shoot the 3s. However, it seemed like the Kings coaching staff was pushing him towards being more of a 3-point shooter and his other offensive assets declined over time.
He is still a good slasher and may occasionally get some second chance points, but he is mainly a 3-point threat since his rookie year.
He is very good on fast breaks as he loves to run the court.

    Potential, confidence and team-play -
This is probably the most important part of this post. This guy definitely has potential, and not little of it either. Whether or not he can live up to it, I honestly have no idea. I can't help but feel like he was unlucky with the coaches and teams he had, but also ain't sure if that's an excuse for covering his mentality problems. I am not sure it was the right decision pushing him hard towards being a 3-point shooter, because it made him less versatile.
This lack of versatility might have been a factor in what seems to be his biggest problem - diminishing confidence. Casspi really needs a coach that believes in him and doesn't give up on him so easily as some other coaches he had. When Casspi has confidence, you can see it easily: he becomes more energetic, more focused. His shooting percentages improves drastically, he rebounds and steals more, and is basically just way way better than when he has no confidence.
After confidence, what I believe is the next most important factor in the success of Casspi in Houston is his team: Casspi grew up playing European basketball. European basketball is more team-play oriented (imo, sorry if this is offensive to anyone) than the NBA. There are less superstars in Europe, and teams really rely on good team-players. While Casspi is not a great passer, he does care about the team a lot. He really wants the team to succeed. However, an environment that has a lot of egoistic players that care about their own statistics will not affect him well. If Casspi will play in a team that has good team-players, he will be happier, do better, and be a better team-player himself. Having Francisco Garcia (his friend from his Kings days) and Jose Calderon (a PG that likes passing the ball) on the team should do him good.

You know what... it says a lot that the guy does have COF.

I'm the only Hayes-fan that I've heard of.. so it's cool to see that Casspi has several.

What are the chances we can trade to get Chuck back? :)

Casspi is another guy that this team/season gives a fresh start to.

I believe this is the difference-maker as well. I hope he blossoms in our system and has a similar effect as Delfino and Garcia did last year.

Thanks for the insights and welcome to the board!
