Why are some people obsessed with getting absolutely hammered?

Some people just don't do moderation.

 

Unless your drowning your sorrows or maybe experimenting for the one of the fist times, there really isn't a point into making that the goal. If you happen to be having a good time, and it happens, then it happens.

But making that the goal instead of a by-product of doing something else then I think it's misguided.

 

Because it's fun...... until the sickness begins. Then it's the worst thing in the world... besides getting a tube jammed up inside your penis... that would be worse.

Unfortunately, you'll see a lot of that at UT on dirty 6th and West Campus. Most people your age cannot afford high quality liquor or wine that's meant to be savored. In addition, because of teen drinking culture in the US, the arrival on college means binge drinking is the standard rather than frowned upon such as when you go to company/firm dinner parties.

Although I've been in that situation a few times myself, I learned my lesson and I think most of my friends did too. What's strange is, we talked about those who relied too heavily on alcohol to give them a different personality/escape mundane reality. All three became alcoholic by graduation. One shot himself dead eventually.

As a side note on alcohol, I hate more than 2 guys and/or girls in a truck or SUV getting drunk. There have been several incidents where these groups would drive by my (minority) friends, and shout racist and hateful remarks. Hiding behind tinted Escalade windows with the radio blaring Keith Urban... really tough.

 

Waking up in a random room with a broken knuckle is awesome.

 

You just don't "get it". No offense. But this sad circumstance you describe is borderline juvenile. Your last statement is so dramatic. A night of drinking does not have the deep underlying meaning you seem to think it does. It's just a night of drinking. As if escaping the reality of life is so terrible. My life is ****ing awesome and I also like to drink socially. That's that, there's no hidden meanings or cries for help, lol.

Its fun to do sometimes

 

They don't know when to stop.
They think other people will tell them when to stop.
They're not responsible enough to know when to stop.
The're not mature enough to be able to tell themselves when to stop.

As of my first post in this thread, I was sober. As of now, I am buzzed before heading out for the night. It's 50/50 from this point forward whether or not I venture into happy drunk or absolutely hammered. I'll report my findings tomorrow.

 

Sometimes it just happens. I don't ever plan to get wasted. I'll be drinking and before you know it "****, I think I'm wasted".

In my experience freshman are much more likely to be this way. Once you become an upperclassmen most people don't care about getting wasted, but just want to have a good time (save for the dudebros).

 

Everyone has those nights/days where they wanna get completely ****faced.
