Barring any trades, I think maybe Bev should start now as it seems like he's a better fit with harden and howard. And then we can have Lin as our "Ginobli" and leader of our bench. It'll let him have more freedom and then in the 4th, coach can let the better pg to finish the game base on feel. What do you guys think? IB LOF, LOH, ABJ posters
This is just an awfull thread sir, couldnt have discussed it in all the other threads where this has been discussed??? jeezz...
Tough to say without seeing any of these guys play together. Also, I don't see Lin accepting a 6th man role.
I'm pretty sure this has already been discussed throughout last season. Let they fight it out during training camp.
I think we can sell him being able to have more freedom instead of just camping at the 3 pt line. And being the 6th man doesn't necessarily means he would get bench minutes and could still get starter minutes
BWAAAAHAHAHA! That was fast. I just posted on the other thread that since J.Smith just got traded to Detroit people getting desperate and would start Lin rumors soon. BWAAAAHAHAHA!
Honestly I want to see Lin play with Howard. I think he will thrive playing with a big man just like in NY. But if he struggles, then definitely send him to the bench and start Bev.
Lin would be perfect as a 6th man in theory. I would just hope he would be ok with it mentally, we could sell it to him as a Manu Ginobili/Jarrett Jack type role. He'd be the main facilitator and scorer on the bench.
I say both will be tested out. But Beverley has a motor and he is slowly running Lin out of the building. Lin better step it up.
Yeah, he touched on it in the exit interview. They asked him if he cares if he comes off the bench or not, and he said he does care. Not to mention he made a big deal about starting in his Volvo commercial. So it clearly matters to him, just like it seems to matter to Asik.
I know we discussed it this last season and no I'm not saying to trade Lin. I like Lin and hope he really improves a lot this year. I know there is a negative connotation to a "bench player" but I don't mean it to be negative, it would give our team a bigger scoring punch with him as the 6th man like ginobli/jack.
i don't understand this "lin as our 6th man" phenomenon. how would he be great as a 6th man and bev as a starter. now that you have D12, you need a pg who can feed the post. Lin's a proven starter (all 82 games) that can feed the big with good looks. did it last year and did it in nyk. bev has water bug defense and just moves the ball along the perimeter. his spacing isn't as good and doesn't feed the big nearly as well as lin, which we'll need with d12.
If Bev can do that, more power to him. But I don't see it happening. We saw a sample of that in the playoffs when he collected too many fouls and McHale was forced to put in an injured Lin. Bev is best as a high energy bench guy. He can't keep up that energetic defense without fouling himself out with starter minutes and vs. starters instead of bench players. I'd rather have Bev giving 100% of his energy as that defensive energetic spark plug, rather than hold himself back for fear of fouling out. And I haven't seen Bev with the passing and court vision that Lin has vs. starters. But an offseason should help with his improvements. They should both come in much improved.
Sadly even rational discussion about Lin that does anything but prop Lin up will be met with "ABJ" bs. Sorry, just the state of Fran's at this point
When healthy, Lin is a better player than Bev IMO. Bev is an aggressive, energetic defender, but Lin IMO is a much better scorer and probably a better passer. We didn't get an honest view of how Bev can handle an offense because Harden basically took over Lin's role in the playoffs after Lin went down.
