Yeah, I totally get the bird rights. That's such a smart play. What do you think! Delfino for the Room exception? Or vet min like Cisco? Les said he's willing to spend big. Imagine this team being set for years with all the bird rights... Lin, Asik, Parsons, Beverley... Etc. We'll see how well they all play but Les could re-sign them all and go waaaaaay into lux tax.
With his playoff performance, and his generosity now, Francisco Garcia has ascended to the pantheon of Rocket legends! Okay, okay, maybe the pantheon's second tier, like alongside Otis Thorpe, Mario Ellie, Sam Cassell, Mike Newlin, et. al.-- but here's hoping he makes it to the top shelf!
I love this so much! He was great during the playoffs and really stepped up. If we could somehow get Delfino back it will be perfect. Howard/Asik/Smith Jones/Dmo Parsons/Delfino Harden/Garcia Lin/Beverly Pretty good lineup.
Perfect. I guess he's our defender 3 point shooter. I wonder if we're still gonna be able to sign someone like Brewer.
Just got out of the shower and got this awesome news about Garcia signing. Good shooter with great leadership too. Maybe I should get back into the shower?
Ahhhh, you're dead on right. Good job. Now, are we sure this is a league minimum deal??? I'm shocked if it is. Pleasantly shocked but shocked nontheless.
This is actually what you could call the Jeremy Lin exception. Previously bird rights only applied to players who were traded, however last year Jeremy Lin was claimed off waivers and there was a dispute whether he retained his bird rights or they had reset. The NBAPA made the argument that since Lin never actually entered free agency (never cleared waivers) that he retained his bird rights. In a ruling, the NBA agreed that players who enter free agency lose bird rights, but players claimed off waivers retain their bird rights. http://www.hoopsworld.com/larry-coon-the-bird-rights-settlement Sooo... 1) If Delfino is claimed off waivers and then we trade for him, then he retains his bird rights. 2) If Delfino clears waivers and enters free agency the bird rights reset whether we sign him directly or trade for him. Since we can NOT sign Delfino off waivers (as the waiving team), then Delfino will 100% lose his bird rights unless we re-acquire him later from a team that picks him up off the waiver wire.
What a steal. Too bad we couldn't get Delfino as well but Garcia is definitely the veteran presence and bench player we need
Actually Delfino was waived (along with Brooks). http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9...waive-carlos-delfino-seldom-used-aaron-brooks
The Dwight news was amazing. This however, makes Dwights move better...and better. Another spot up shooter, and don't underestimate his role as a leader. You could tell he was a true vet out there even when he wasn't playing at all. Amazing work by our front office.
